The Greatest On-Screen Kiss went to 1939’s Gone With the Wind, but Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio were voted to be the Most Romantic Screen Couple. The Best Comedy is Airplaine! (1980), and Star Wars (1977) earned the top nod as the Best SciFi film. The Lion King (1994) was picked as the Best Animated Film, and the classic Sound of Music (1965) was named Best Musical
Schindler’s List (1993) went to the top of the Best Political/Historical Film list, and The Notebook (2005) is officially the Best Chick Flick. But, men weren’t left out -- Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969) is the Best Western, and Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) the Best Action Film. The Best Suspense/Thriller film was The Silence of the Lambs (1991). The best horror movie? The Exorcist (1973).
The Greatest Film Character went to Tom Hanks for Forrest Gump, and the greatest line ever uttered onscreen was delivered by the incomparable Clark Gable (“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn”). Voters named Gone With the Wind as the greatest film of all time.
The choice varies dramatically from the American Film Institute’s pick as number one, which is and has been Citizen Kane (1941) for many years. On the AFI list, Gone With the Wind comes in at number four.
