Beyonce KnowlesWonder Woman

She already calls herself Sasha Fierce...why not call her Wonder Woman as well?

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, singer/dancer/actress said it would be nice to see a few more people of color making some news these days. Even though she has two completed movies scheduled for release - and a third solo album due out Nov. 18 - the newlywed is already looking ahead. What would she like to see in her future? A form-fitting red, white and blue number.

“I want to do a superhero movie and what would be better than Wonder Woman? It would be great. And it would be a very bold choice. A black Wonder Woman would be a powerful thing. It’s time for that, right?”

Although she had already been tossing around the idea of playing a hero, her desire to update Lynda Carter’s famous role was heightened after seeing the iconic outfit at Costume Institute’s “Superhero” show. Since her visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Knowles has sat down with reps for both DC Comics and Warner Bros. to express an interest in playing the character. That is not to say that any casting has begun. In fact, it’s not even clear whether a big-screen version of the comic will ever be made.

So is the woman best known for playing Foxxy Cleopatra (Austin Powers) and Deena Jones (Dreamgirls) even ready to take on this physical character? According to Beyonce, yes. For her upcomng film, Obsessed, the 27-year-old had to get down and dirty to play a wife whose husband is being stalked.

“I play a wife fighting for her family and I have this big, big fighting scene with Ali Larter, who is an incredible actress. It took us days just to film it. I had my boots on and, wow, I got into it. So I really want that now. Now I have to do an action film. It’s like dancing and choreography. And the superhero movies now, they’re not corny, not corny at all, so that’s what I want to do. And I would love if it could be Wonder Woman.”

Amd while I’m certain the multihyphenate could handle any choreography given to her, is a mastery of self-defense techniques really all it takes? After all, Fly Girl once kicked butt in Enough...and frankly, pun intended, that wouldn’t have been quite enough.

okay, i love seeing people of color on the big and small screen just like any other person of color would. however, Beyonce as Wonder Woman…yikes! I would much rather see some one else in that role whether she’s black, white, latina, asian, etc. ANYONE would be better as Wonder Woman that Beyonce. Sorry if this offends you Sasha or whatever you new name is today, stick to music!

I’m a superhero fanatic, and when filmakers do a remake of comic book characters, there are times I’ve been cool with the actors they picked for the part, and there was times I just shook my head in disbelief.  I have to agree with you.  I think Rebecca Romjin, Demi Moore or Nicole (I forgot her last name, she’s the leader of the Pussycat Dolls) are decent candidates for playing Wonder Woman.  I love Beyonce and she is very talented, but NO!  Not for this part.
