Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Anthony Hopkins: The Wolfman actor will soon play dad to another large character: Thor. Hopkins has been cast as Odin, father of the title character (Chris Hemsworth) who is sent down to Earth after reigniting an ancient war. The film - which also includes Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston - will open May 20, 2011.

Milla Jovovich: The Resident Evil actress will escape a different type of evil in Faces in the Crowd. After surviving an attack by a serial killer, Milla’s character becomes “face-blind” - unable to recognize faces. This impairment, of course, doesn’t help when a murderer’s still out to finish his job. Julien Magnat (Bloody Mallory) will serve as writer and director.

Steve Carell: The Office star may be stepping away from the desk to hit the greens. Carell is currently set to produce and may also act in Missing Links, an adaptation of Rick Reilly’s novel. The story centers on a group of friends who are eyeing an upscale course for their golfing routine. Jay Lavender (The Break-Up) is penning the script.

January Jones: Despite Ashton Kutcher’s predictions about her future, the Mad Men actress has been doing quite well for herself. In the past week, Jones’ name has become attached to two different projects: The Hungry Rabbit Jumps alongside Nicolas Cage and Unknown White Male with Liam Neeson. The two films will shoot back-to-back starting in December.

Josh Brolin: The Academy Award nominee is in talks to reunite with his No Country for Old Men directors for True Grit, a remake of the 1969 film. If cast, Brolin would play a killer being hunted down by a U.S. marshal (Jeff Bridges). Matt Damon may also join the Coen brothers project as a lawman who assists Bridges.

Viola Davis: The Doubt star will soon have patients trusting her in a pair of new films. In It’s Kind of a Funny Story, co-starring Zach Galifianakis, Davis’ psychiatrist character helps a 15-year-old being treated for depression in an adult psych unit. Meanwhile, Viola has been added as counselor to Trust, a David Schwimmer-directed film about a young girl victimized by an adult she mets in a chat room. Clive Owen and Catherine Kenner will also be featured.

Laura Dern: The Recount actress will be taking on the role of headmistress in Little Fockers, the next Meet the Parents sequel. Derns, who joins the veteran cast members, will work in the school the Fockers’ kids attend. The film is being directed by Paul Weitz (About a Boy).
