Sean Penn and James Franco

UPDATE: You can see James Franco detailing his experience with Sean Penn after the jump.

Since so much was made about Scarlett kissing Penelope in Vicky Cristina Barcelona, why don’t we turn the tables for a bit? Later this year, we’ll get to see Sean Penn and James Franco sharing a few lip locks of their own.

In Milk, Sean stars as real-life politician Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man to be elected into a public office. (San Francisco’s city supervisor was later assassinated in 1978.) James plays Scott Smith, one of Milk’s boyfriends.

Franco, who has a bromance with in Pineapple Express, described what it was like to romantic with the Oscar winner:

“It wasn’t twelve hours, but it certainly felt like it. The first kiss of the movie was out on Haight Street, with, like, 200 people watching, outside. It was a crane shot—I’m sure in the end it will be a really cool shot, but it starts close and then it takes maybe a minute. That’s a long time on film with everybody watching and, like, a fake mustache getting in your mouth. It was long enough that you couldn’t help thinking, ‘Oh, my God, I’m kissing Spicoli.’ ”

‘s Milk opens in limited release on November 26.

(Franco starts talking about Milk at approximately 3:18.)
