Predator: Who better to play the new Arnold Schwarzenegger…than Adrien Brody? The Oscar winner (The Pianist) was recently announced as the star of Predators, a reboot of the 1987 sci-fi thriller. The movie, which is being produced and co-written by Robert Rodriguez, will have Brody leading the group being hunted down by alien trackers. Others cast in the Nimrod Antal film include Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walt Goggins and Danny Trejo. The production will debut on July 9, 2010.

Reykjavik-Rotterdam: Iceland’s current submission for the Best Foreign Film award already has an English-speaking offering in the works. Mark Wahlberg has just been linked to the U.S. version of Reykjavik-Rotterdam, a thriller about an ex-freight ship worker and smuggler who is convinced by a friend to pull off one last job. Baltasar Kormakur - a star in the original entry - will helm the project.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: A proposed adaptation of of the Robert Louis Stevenson novella may have Forest Whitaker and rapper 50 Cent working together. “We’re still figuring out what we’re going to do, if I am going to be doing that or not. If I end up doing it, I would be playing Jekyll and he would be playing Hyde,” Whitaker explained to MTV. “It’s also [an interesting script] because we are dealing with similar things. You know, this Jekyll has a lot of issues and problems personally, himself. Hidden passions, hidden perversions — and it’s acted out by 50.” If produced, Jekyll and Hyde would be directed by Abel Ferrera (Bad Lieutenant).

True Grit: A Jeff Bridges/Coen Brothers reunion could soon be in the making. The Big Lebowski collaborators may work together again on a new version of True Grit, a 1969 John Wayne film about a U.S. marshal who helps a 14-year-old girl find her father’s killer. The Paramount adaptation will reportedly stay truer to the Charles Portis novel.

A Star is Born: It’s time to update the story of a female celebrity outshining her lover for the next generation. Warner Bros. is looking to bring a fourth version of A Star is Born to the screen. The movie - which is currently being drafted by Will Fetters (Remember Me) - will once again be set in the music industry like the 1976 outing with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. No release date has been projected for the film.

The Fly: Is David Cronenberg on the road to redoing his own film? According to reports, the director will be revisiting The Fly, his sci-fi hit. In the 1986 outing, Jeff Goldblum played a scientist who accidentally merged traits with a common house fly after a teleportation accident. (Cronenberg was not involved with the 1989 sequel.) It’s hoped the modern retelling can take advantage of special effects not available at that time.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: A failed agreement between Mattel and Universal may be a bonus for Columbia. The studio is now in talks to pick up an adaptation of the animated series. It’s still not known which direction Masters of the Universe will take. A new director will also have to be hired as John Stevenson is no longer attached.

Highlander: A 1986 cult film that has already spawned several sequels and TV spinoffs will be the basis for a possible new franchise. Justin Lin (Fast & Furious) has been handed the reins for Highlander, a reimagining of the movie starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery. Writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man) will be in charge of the screenplay.
