Speedy Gonzales: George Lopez has already voiced a chihuahua, so it’s only logical he would take on Mexico’s fastest mouse next. The comedian is now set to lead a live-action/CG hybrid version of Speedy Gonzales, the famous animated series from the 1950’s. Although the cartoon’s depictions have been labeled racist in recent years, Ann Lopez, George’s wife/producing partner, promises the storyline will be updated for the times. “Speedy’s going to be a misunderstood boy who comes from a family that works in a very meticulous setting, and he’s a little too fast for what they do,” she explained. “He makes a mess of that. So he has to go out in the world to find what he’s good at.”

Arthur: If you’re like me, you barely remember the original Dudley Moore movie—which is why a remake of Arthur is probably being made. In the 2011 entry, comedian Russell Brand will be the one taking on the drunken playboy role. (It’s not known who will play his love interest.) Jason Winer (Modern Family) will direct.

Police Academy: Seven films was apparently not enough. New Line has announced that it is looking to revive the Police Academy series, over 25 years after the first film debuted. No director or stars have yet been named, but Paul Maslansky will return to produce.

Pet Sematary: Stephen King’s 1983 horror story is being resurrected for the big screen. Pet Sematary had already been adapted by the famous author for a 1989 outing. Now, the story about a boy buried in a spiritual burial ground by his father is being brought back to life by Matthew Greenberg, one of the writers behind 1408—another adaptation of a King story.

Gilligan’s Island: Let’s see—fans are still loving Survivor and Lost...so it was only a matter of time time before a Gilligan’s Island movie became Hollywood’s next project. Warner Bros. is working to revive the comedic tale of seven castaways on an uninhabited island. No actors have yet been selected for the contemporary redo, but Sherwood Schwartz - a producer on both the original show and this reboot - previously expressed interest in seeing Michael Cera in the cast. (It’s got to be better than Year One, right?)
