Here’s the latest scoop on the sequel buzz spreading across Hollywood:

Independence Day: If I didn’t know any better, I’d say Roland Emmerich flat out hates this planet. The director of The Day After Tomorrow and and 2012 is now talking about a follow-up to his 1996 hit, Independence Day. Emmerich says his proposed idea would see vets Will Smith (another lover of sequels) and Bill Pullman years after the first disaster. “One day we will do it,” Roland claimed.

Saw: Although the verdict’s still out on a Paranormal Activity sequel, Saw VII - in 3D - is already a go. This announcement comes just weeks after Saw VI debuted in second place. “As long as we make money on it we’ll keep doing this,” Lionsgate’s vice chairman Michael Burns recently declared. In other words - if you want the insanity to stop, please stop going.

Three Men and a Baby: Long before Two and Half Men came a tale about three men living together, Now, nearly 20 years after Three Men and a Little Lady released, comes word of a third chapter in the series. According to Steve Guttenberg and a manager for Tom Selleck, a threequel titled Three Men and a Bride is in the works. Although it’s unclear whether Ted Danson and Nancy Travis are also on board, Guttenberg claims “they’re bringing everybody back for that.”

Scream: Writer Kevin Williamson has given us a hint as to what lies ahead for the upcoming trilogy. Although Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are all set for Scream 4, an additional set of characters will help lead us into the following two films. (Maybe that’s why Williamson hasn’t ruled out offing Campbell in the next outing?) The fourth installment, which will be set 10 years after the last chapter, will also include the self-referential remarks we’ve come to expect from the series.

Men in Black: Since ABC has welcomed the Visitors, it might be time for us to call back those men in suits. Columbia Pictures, eager to put a Men in Black 3 on the screen, has hired Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder) to write a script. No official deals have been announced yet for franchise vets Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The two last confronted aliens together back in 2002.
