Wolverine: Oscar award-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects) has been tapped to write the follow-up to Wolverine. The movie, which will be produced by Hugh Jackman, is not to be confused with the Deadpool spinoff focusing on Ryan Reynold’s character. This Japan-set film will follow Wolverine as he struggles between his killer instincts and the noble life of samurais. McQuarrie also did some work on the 2000 X-Men film.

The Sum of All Fears: It looks as if Jack Ryan, like James Bond, may be ready for a new adventure…and a new actor. Lorenzo di Bonaventura told MTV News that Paramount has reviewed a script for a possible sequel. “It was well-received and it’s in the process,” the producer claimed. No word on who might play a “young Jack Ryan” - a version his early 30’s - in the proposed feature. Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck tackled the Tom Clancy character in the first four installments.

G.I. Joe: Was G.I. Joe‘s solo week at #1 enough to earn it a second outing? Marlon Wayans seems to think so. “They will make a sequel,” the actor who plays Ripcord recently declared. “That’s the thing about Hollywood. They will make a sequel and sequel to the sequel and then a sequel to the sequel’s sequel.” So I’m assuming that means he’d be game to do it all over again? “I can’t wait to do it. If it happens, that would be great,” Wayans stated.

Mission Impossible: MI:4 continues to take shape with the selection of two writers. Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec, co-exec producers on J.J. Abrams’ show Alias, have been tasked with writing the actioner’s screenplay. The film, which is being produced by both Abrams and Tom Cruise, is scheduled to open in 2011. No word at this time whether Cruise (Ethan Hunt) will also be in the picture.

True Lies: Will there really be a True Lies sequel, or is Tom Arnold just full of them? The comedian recently told the New York Times that director Jim Cameron will be crafting a sequel to his 1994 hit. “All I know is Jim Cameron’s making it and Arnold [Schwarzenegger] and I are going to be in it, and it starts shooting in 14 months, the day after Arnold stops being governor of California,” Tom stated. “It’s not going to be called True Lies II, but it might as well be. I can live with that.” I’m guessing Tom could live with just about anything…
