Well I have some problems with this review.  1.  Though when you drop your movie off at the store it stays in your que Blockbuster does ship your next one out, they do not wait until the other gets back to thier shipping point. 2.  I put lady in the water in my que and they did recommand like titles, not splash.  3.  Blockbuster also has movies netflix does not. 4.  Blockbuster does not throttle(more you rent, the less you get) 5.  Netflix list movies that have no release date, you know rereleases.

Thanks for your comment, Alvie.  My review is based solely on what I perceived in the month I had been using the Blockbuster service.  I imagine the range of discrepancy between customers is vast – exactly why we invite you to leave comments.  So again, thank you.

There was a suit brought against Netflix a few years ago regarding “throttling.”  I can’t imagine they’d be stupid enough to continue to do so after settling out of court and taking on around $4 million in losses.  Have you heard claims of this occurring since then?

And I am curious – what Blockbuster movies have you found (besides some of the exclusive Weinstein titles) that are missing from Netflix?

Netflix isn’t stupid- they just made throttling part of their Terms of Srvice. In trying to decide between Netflix and Blockbuster, I read Netflix’s terms at http://www.netflix.com/TermsOfUse. It says, in part:

In determining priority for shipping and inventory allocation, we may utilize many different factors, including without limitation, the number and type of DVDs you rent through our service, the subscription plan you select, as well as other uses of our service by you. For example, if all other factors are the same, we give priority to those members who receive the fewest DVDs through our service.

Of course, Blockbuster’s terms say the same thing:

However, BLOCKBUSTER Online reserves the right to determine product allocation among members in its sole discretion. In determining product allocation, we use various factors including, but not limited to, (i) the historical rental volume for each subscriber, (ii) historical number of outstanding rentals relative to the maximum number of outstanding BLOCKBUSTER Online Rentals allowed under a subscriber’s plan, and (iii) the average rental queue position of BLOCKBUSTER Online Rentals that have shipped to a subscriber in the past.
