UK Fans Cheer for Simpsons Preview

The Simpsons  Ten full minutes of footage from The Simpsons Movie was shown to a London audience on the 4th of July, as the British were not spending the day lighting fireworks and grilling out on hot coals. Instead, they were watching a preview for the much-anticipated Simpsons big-screen premiere, which will be released worldwide later this month. The clip suggests that religion and environmentalism will be a big part of the plot, but the animated FOX series is well-known for their misleading plot placement.

In the movie, Lisa’s green concerns will come to the fore, a natural representation of a character that’s known as both a Buddhist and a vegetarian. She will also have the chance for romance in the movie, and perhaps shake off the curse of a life with Millhouse, one of many long-running jokes on the Simpsons series. The London audience cheered when Bart, wearing nothing but a smile, skateboarded through the streets of Springfield. And p.s., expect animated nudity if you go watch this movie. Minnie Driver, Erin Brockovich, and Albert Brooks were attached to The Simpsons Movie early on, along with the suggestion that a Homer-induced nuclear accident will be part of the plot. Those attached to the project, however, have also said they would circulate some fake plots, “just to make it interesting.”  Series creator Matt Groening has stated that he does expect to get some complaints for the movie, which could offend some people. But, that’s what The Simpsons is known for.

A full-length feature film for the first family of FOX has been in the works since 1992, but has taken fifteen years to come to fruition. The Simpsons has been on the air for two decades, and gave life to FOX when the network was struggling in the ratings department. Fans have waited a long time for the Simpsons to come to the big screen, and the ten-minute viewing suggests that the wait has been well worth it. The Simpsons Movie will be just like The Simpsons TV show, with a little extra. And there’s nothing wrong with that.
