Liam HemsworthMiley Cyrus' ex Actor Liam Hemsworth has joined the cast of The Expendables 2. The Hunger Games actor will play a sniper in the forthcoming blockbuster sequel, though no other details of his exact role in the film have yet been revealed.

Liam is the latest in a long line of stars to be confirmed for the cast of the action film, which will be directed by Simon West. Sylvester Stallone heads the movie, reprising his role as team leader Barney Ross, with Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Randy Couture also returning. In addition, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, who made cameo appearances in the original 2010 movie, will also return, but with their roles expanded.

Other newcomers to the series include Jean-Claude Van Damme, Nicolas Cage, John Travolta and Chuck Norris. "We'll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one. We've got Chuck Norris. I think Nic Cage. We're trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot," Stallone said.

The Expendables 2 is due in cinemas in August 2012.

Rio - Number One at the Box Office

Rio is number one for the second week in a row. The animated family film earned $26.8 million at the box office over the weekend, barely edging out Tyler Perry’s sequel.

Madea’s Big Happy Family earned $25.8, just missing the number one mark set by Rio. Water for Elephants, driven by the much-touted on-screen pairing of Reese Witherspoon and Twilight star Robert Pattinson, debuted at third place with $17.5 million.

Hop continues to hang around in the top 5, earning $12.5 million to secure fourth place. Scream 4 fell to fifth, taking only $7.2 over the weekend.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

The big-budget action movie, Sucker Punch, cost a cool $80 million to make -- and everyone involved was hoping the flick would make a big box office splash. The gun-heavy, intense action movie looked like a shoo-in for the top box office slot, but nerd power ruled the weekend instead. Gun-toting babes, it seems, are worth less than $20 million to moviegoers. Diary of a Wimpy Kid overshadowed the girl-powered fighting flick, earning $24.4 million to take first place at the box office.

Sucker Punch had a dismal opening weekend, raking in a disappointing $19 million to score second place. Limitless is still going strong, though it’s fallen to number three, earning $15.2 million. Lincoln Lawyer ($11 million) and Rango ($9.8 million) finish off the top five earners of the weekend.

Bradley Cooper - Limitless

Who is Hollywood’s new $19 million man? Bradley Cooper. The Limitless star proved to be exactly that at the box office this weekend, scoring the top money-making slot with fans.

But Johnny Depp also easily proved his worth -- he didn’t even have to appear on screen to rake in $15.3 million with the animated Rango. Battle: Los Angeles, opening to horrible reviews, managed a modest $14.6 million to earn the number three position.

Matthew McConaughey’s The Lincoln Lawyer barely earned fourth place with $13.4, only narrowly edging out fifth-ranked Paul’s $13.1 million.
