Harvey Weinstein Slightly Justifies A Single Man Marketing
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Weinstein Company, Adaptation, Drama, Period, Romance, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Celebrity Controversy, Distribution, Rumors, Upcoming Releases

When the original movie poster (above) for Tom Ford’s directorial debut, A Single Man, appeared online, fans questioned whether or not distributors The Weinstein Company was downplaying the major gay theme of the film.
In the film, Colin Firth plays a closeted professor who mourns over his lover’s (Matthew Goode) death. Judging by the poster of Firth in bed with Julianne Moore (whose screen time is rumored to be fairly short), I think it’s safe to say that there was little intention to illustrate said storyline.
Upon the recent release of the film’s second poster (seen after the jump), Harvey Weinstein was questioned about the marketing that seems to say something other than the real message at hand.

Johnny Depp to Get $35 Million for Pirates 4
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Disney, Action, Adventure, Family, Period, Sequels, Comedy, Thrillers, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors, Upcoming Releases

While studio execs at Disney may forge ahead without Johnny Depp for the fifth and sixth Pirates of the Caribbean films, they’ll definitely be paying a hefty amount to have him in the latest sequel of the franchise.
Reportedly commanding a minimum of $35 million, Depp would shoot to the top of the highest-paid actors list, placing him above the likes of Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, and Mel Gibson, who ask for around $30 million (Depp received $25 million for the last Pirates sequel).
Yes, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have dominated at the box office; however, higher-ups usually aren’t known to shell out $35 million paychecks, so what gives?

Clash of the Titans Trailers - Now and Then
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Period, Remakes, Trailers, Upcoming Releases
Well - If that doesn’t have testosterone spelled all over it, I’m not sure what does.
Thought Prince of Persia looked a little too…Disney? Wishing Sam Worthington wasn’t a cyborg or a blue Jar Jar Binks? Need a good reason to dust off your useless Greek mythology knowledge?
In this new trailer for Clash of the Titans, Avatar‘s Worthington wields a sword as the heroic son of Zeus (Liam Neeson). The remake follows Perseus on his journey to battle Hades (Ralph Fiennes), the god of the underworld.
The updated version of Titans will open on March 26. Until then, you can rewatch the cheesy classic 1981 trailer starring Harry Hamlin after the jump.

Inglourious Basterds Prequel Possibly in the Works
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Weinstein Company, Action, Horror, Period, Political, Sequels, Thrillers, Celebrity Gossip, Filmmaking, Rumors, Scripts
With one of the world’s most vied-for actors at your command and scoring an impressive $38 million at the box office, it’s nearly impractical for Quentin Tarantino to not pursue another Inglourious Basterds film.
According to Eli Roth, the chances are pretty good.
“Everybody would drop whatever they’re doing to go back to work with Quentin… All the time, Brad says, ‘Prequel, prequel!’ All the ‘basterds’ would jump on it in a second. We have three scenes that we shot in Boston that take place before the war, and Quentin says if he does the prequel, he’s going to use them. They’re not going to be DVD extras.”
Without spilling too many secrets, Roth briefly describes one of the scenes, which features a rather random cameo…

Box Office Breakdown: That Was It for Paranormal Activity
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Fox Searchlight, Lionsgate, Paramount, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Animation, Biopics, Documentary, Drama, Family, Horror, Music, Period, Remakes, Comedy, Thrillers, Box Office, Lists

Based on the numbers from the past week, it looks like This Is It should remain in theaters longer than two weeks. Oh wait - it will.
Since opening late Tuesday night, the concert film has generated a total of $34.4 million domestically - $23.2 million just over the weekend - and approximately $101 worldwide. Although Michael Jackson technically didn’t beat the opener for Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour (that entry earned more over 5 days), This Is It had the best international debut ever for any concert film.
Sony’s win meant a short victory for Paranormal Activity. After a steady climb, and only 1 week at the top, the horror film slipped down to second place. Of course, the word-of-mouth hit has nothing to complain about. Not only has the movie grossed $84.6 million to date, it also had the best per screen average of any Top 10 charter.

New Shutter Island Trailer Hits Internet
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Paramount, Horror, Period, Science Fiction, Thrillers, Distribution, Trailers, Upcoming Releases
Although movie-goers should have seen Shutter Island a few weeks ago, Paramount seems to be making up for the delay by debuting a third trailer for Martin Scorcese’s latest thriller.
Is it just me, or do these trailers get creepier with each release? I swear that the body count has drastically increased with each trailer!
Creepiness aside, you can catch the entire film, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo, on February 19.
