Film Academy Pays Tribute to 1939

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to pay homage to one of the greatest years for movies by honoring ten legendary films from 1939. The Goldwyn Theater will offer up one of these treats every single week.
The tribute starts with what I believe to be the greatest of all stories told in book or cinema, Gone With the Wind. This Oscar-sweeping hit won most all the big awards in ‘39 and features the amazing pairing up Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable. Gable’s famous exit line remains the greatest in film history, as named by the American Film Institute. Scarlett O’Hara’s last spoken line - “tomorrow is another day” - is ranked twelfth by the AFI.

Heath Ledger: Legendary Villain
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Horror, Thrillers, Casting, New Releases,
The Dark Knight has yet to hit theaters, yet it’s already shaping up to be Heath Ledger’s greatest flick. Critics are raving, the trailers primarily feature him in grotesque make-up, and Moviefone has added him to their list of great on-screen villains. There’s only one problem: I don’t agree with Moviefone’s list.
The list of Top 25 movie villains includes old favorites like Khan (Star Trek II), Cruella de Ville (101 Dalmations), Faye Dunaway as Joan Crawford (Mommie Dearest), Jimmy Cagney as the Public Enemy (love, love, love Cagney), Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers. On Moviefone’s list, Heath’s Joker comes in at Number 5, trumped by Hannibal Lecter, the Wicked Witch of the West (The Wizard of Oz), Darth Vader and Lord Voldemort.
And I think Moviefone is wrong. While there were some on the list who were truly chilling - Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes in Misery, for instance - others were left off the countdown completely. So with no further delay I will name the on-screen villains I found the most frightening and fearsome in big-screen flicks. None of my villains made it to Moviefone’s list and I can’t imagine why.

That Mail’s Got Bette Davis Eyes
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Celeb News,
Looking for a good reason to start a stamp collection? If this face can’t convince you, you’re born to write e-mails. The USPS will soon release the 14th stamp in their Legends of Hollywood series, a 41 cent masterpiece which will feature the face that once drove men to distraction - the one and only Bette Davis.
Nominated for ten Academy Awards, Davis won the honor twice (1935 and 38) and appeared in more than 100 films. Her long Hollywood career spanned fifty years and included two movies in which Bette portrayed Queen Elizabeth, one of the very few actresses to ever play the role in more than one feature film.
A true Hollywood Legend, the Bette Davis stamp will be released on the 100th anniversary of her birth.
