Box Office Breakdown: Avatar Just Hours Away from Worldwide Record
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories:
Are we there yet?
Despite six weeks of chart-topping numbers, Avatar still hasn’t brought down the Titanic. Yes - the movie did finally surpass The Dark Knight on the domestic charts. And yes - the 20th Century Fox feature is now the top international earner at $1.29 billion. But James Cameron’s earlier blockbuster is still slightly ahead - by approximately $2 million - as far as worldwide receipts are concerned. (Monday’s ticket sales should change that for Avatar.) The 3D-adventure is also approximately $49.1 million shy of becoming the domestic king of the world.

Harrison Ford Ready for Indiana 5

Not even age can get an actor down: Harrison Ford is ready for another Indiana Jones movie.
The screen legend, who has played the titular adventuring archaeologist in the four previous films in the franchise, said he is keen to make a fifth film, and creator George Lucas is already working on ideas.
Harrison, who also starred in the original Star Wars trilogy, said, “I’d love to do it. George Lucas is working on an idea and if he can come up with something, Steven Spielberg and I have to agree to go ahead with it. If we find another story to do and we develop the character a little further and I get a chance to do another one, I’d be happy as pie to do it. I don’t think there’s any other franchise films that I’d want to go back to.”
The 67-year-old star particularly wants to deepen the relationship between archaeologist Indy and his son Mutt Williams, played by Shia LaBeouf in 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Sherlock Holmes: Are you looking forward to seeing Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in Sherlock Holmes? Are you already convinced the movie deserves a sequel? Although we still have to wait until Christmas to unwrap the Guy Ritchie film, Warner Bros. is already prepping for a follow-up…and word has it, Brad Pitt may be involved. Writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney (Justice League: Mortal) will most likely be tasked with writing the second installment, which may feature the Inglourious Basterds star as Moriarty, Holmes’ nemesis. (Rumor has it Pitt even makes an appearance in December’s outing.) No other names have yet been attached to the project.

Harrison Ford tops Highest Paid Actor List
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Paramount, Box Office, Celeb News, Lists
Harrison Ford is Hollywood’s highest paid actor after earning $60.37 million over the last 12 months. The 66-year-old star made the staggering sum after starring in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - which took $701 million worldwide at the box office. Ford - who had only appeared in four movies since 2000 before agreeing to reprise the famous role for a fourth time - was paid the figure between June 2008 and June 2009 as part of a deal that saw studio Paramount give the veteran star, director Steven Spielberg and producer George Lucas a percentage of the film’s earnings.
Other stars to make the list, compiled by business bible Forbes magazine, include Adam Sandler, who came second after raking in $51.38 million, Will Smith, who finished third with $42 million, and fourth placed Eddie Murphy, who earned $37.3 million. Rounding off the top five was Nicolas Cage, who was paid $37 million in the last 12 months. Forbes compiled the list of top earning stars by speaking to agents, managers, producers and lawyers to find out what money stars received upfront for movies in development and earnings from released films. Advertising and other earnings from the last 12 months were also taken into consideration.

This past weekend, the powerhouse’s latest blockbuster, Hancock, took in over $62 million giving Smith his eighth straight #1 debut. In total, the Sony Pictures production grossed nearly $104 million during a 5 1/2 day period.
In addition to being Will’s second-best opener ever (I Am Legend set his record), Hancock was the actor’s fifth movie to reach first place over the same holiday weekend.
