When a movie is annoyingly difficult to spell (I can never seem to get Inglourious Basterds right on the first try), you know the film’s going to generate mixed emotions. Although the crowds were eager to welcome Brad Pitt and director Quentin Tarantino to the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, the reception to their WWII era film was a bit uneven.
Preview the trailer here then read the early reviews after the jump.

Brad Pitt Asks for Nazi Scalps in Inglourious Basterds Trailer

Earlier this month, B.J. Novak found it difficult to describe Inglorious Basterds. Let’s see if this teaser trailer can help fill in the blanks.
In the film, Brad Pitt plays Lt. Aldo Raine, the leader of a group of Jewish-American soldiers on a mission to kill Nazis. The movie, which clearly promises to be a bloody one, was directed by none other than Quentin Tarantino.
After previewing the trailer, let us know what you think. Did it do enough to make you overlook Brad’s hideous mustache? Is this the WWII film that will make everyone forget Valkyrie ever existed?
Inglourious Basterds hits theaters on August 21.

As if the names “Quentin Tarantino” and “Brad Pitt” weren’t already enough for us.
In a recent interview with MTV, B.J. Novak provided an insider’s perspective on Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. (The 29-year-old plays Private First Class Utivich.) Although he admits the WWII-era film is a bit hard to describe, the Office star didn’t have any difficulty heaping praise on one of the “coolest movies” he’s “ever seen or been a part of.”

Still getting used to the spelling of Quentin Tarantino‘s new film? (It was once spelled Inglorious Bastards.) Well, you’ll now have until this fall to get the title mastered.
The WWII drama about Jewish-American soldiers on a mission to kill to Nazis has just been scheduled for an August 21 release. The film, which will be be distributed by the Weinstein Company in the States (by Universal internationally), marks Tarantino’s attempt at a period film. Production began in Germany back in October.
Inglourious Basterds stars Brad Pitt, Mike Myers, BJ Novak, Eli Roth and Diane Kruger.

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:
- Cloris Leachman: She may not have won a mirror-ball trophy, but she was able to snag something even bigger. Oscar-winner Cloris Leachman was recently added to Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (formerly spelled Inglorious Bastards) cast. The 82-year-old will cameo as Mrs. Himmelstein, an elderly Jewish woman who inspires Eli Roth’s character to seek vengeance. The WWII movie already has Brad Pitt, Mike Myers, Diane Kruger and B.J. Novak in its lineup.

Casting Corner: Diane Kruger, Woody Harrelson, George Clooney

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:
Quentin Tarantino has finally injected a bit of estrogen into his growing Inglorious Bastards cast. Diane Kruger - probably best known for her work in the National Treasure installments - has just been added to the WWII-era film.
Kruger, who was born in Germany, will play Bridget Von Hammersmark, a German actress who helps a group of American Nazi killers. (That group is lead by Aldo Raine, Brad Pitt’s character.) The role will allow Diane to speak in both English and her native tongue.
This will be the second time Kruger has worked with the father of six. The two both starred in 2004’s Troy.
Inglorious Bastards - also starring Eli Roth, Mike Myers and B.J. Novak - begins filming in Germany on October 13.

Pitt, Novak, and Roth Line Up For Bastards

UPDATE: Funnyman Mike Myers has also been recruited! You can find the details here.
As promised, Quentin Tarantino has definitely not stopped working on his epic WWII film, Inglorious Bastards, ever since he completed the script. After years of speculation concerning casting, a few of the roles have recently been confirmed (finally).
What came as quite a shock to most (considering Tarantino’s usual taste in actors), Hollywood heavyweight Brad Pitt was cast as the lead role of Jewish soldier Aldo Raine. Then again, it is only appropriate that Pitt play a part in a real Tarantino film, considering he had a minor role in Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers.

Brangelina Babies Born…What’s Next?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Action, Adaptation, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases

Unless you managed to seal yourself in a cave the past few weeks, you know the Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie twins have been born. This Hollywood power couple has never let grass grow under their feet - so what’s next for the industrious pair? Not much has been confirmed, but one thing is certain - these two just aren’t going to stop making headlines.
In case you haven’t heard the news, The Dark Knight is making money hand over fist (domestically, the film has already made well over an astronomical $300 million). It’s only natural that talk of a new Batman installment is already circulating.
None of those associated with the current Batman movies have said much about the possible flick, but one star from the past has stepped forward to put in her two cents. Julie Newmar, the iconic Catwoman who played opposite Adam West’s Batman, has nominated Angelina Jolie for her former role. “Angelina would own the part,” Newmar stated to the New York Daily News.

Casting Corner: Brad Pitt, Will Ferrell, Eddie Murphy
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Sony, Weinstein Company, Drama, Period, Comedy, Casting, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting tidbits announced in the past few days:
Although the paparazzi has been aiming to get close to Brangelina for days, Quentin Tarantino was recently able to score a one-on-one with Brad Pitt. Tarantino, who recently completed his script for Inglorious Bastards, just met with the actor in France in hopes of casting him in the film. According to Variety, Brad was in discussion to play the role of Aldo Raine.
As we reported earlier, the Kill Bill director would like to start production on his WWII era movie soon, and his current schedule is reflecting that mood. In addition to his meeting with Pitt, Quentin was reportedly scheduled to meet Leonardo DiCaprio yesterday about the character Hans Landa. Meanwhile, Tarantino and Harvey Weinstein are meeting with five different studios to secure a financial partner.
Filming on Inglorious Bastards is set to begin this fall in Germany and France.

Quentin Tarantino Completes Inglorious Bastards Script
Posted by Kathleen Kane Categories: Action, Adventure, Drama, Horror, Period, Political, Comedy, Celeb News, Filmmaking, Rumors, Scripts, Upcoming Releases

HALLELUJAH! Last weekend at the Provincetown Film Festival,
writer-director Quentin Tarantino announced that he has finally finished the screenplay for that itty-bitty, unknown war epic called Inglorious Bastards.
With having narrowed a once thousand something-page script down to a more reasonable one under two-hundred, Tarantino stated he was “real happy dude right now.” As a personal Tarantino worshipper, I think it’s safe to say that he’s not the only one.
The film will mark the ground-breaking director’s sixth major feature—his first solo project since Kill Bill: Vol. 2 back in 2004. Like Kill Bill, this upcoming WWII epic will most likely be a two-part saga; unlike his revenge movie, Inglorious Bastards will be his first period piece.
