Josh Brolin Wanted Park’s Blessing For Old Boy

Josh BrolinJosh Brolin wanted to get Park Chan-wook's blessing before he agreed to sign up to the remake of Old Boy.

The actor is to star alongside Elizabeth Olsen in a new version of Park's 2003 violent thriller - which is being directed by Spike Lee - but admitted he did have some reservations beforehand.

"Spike Lee's doing Old Boy and it's different and the same. I wrote an email to Park, who I really love, when I tried to get him to direct Jonah Hex. I was like, 'If you're not completely into this, then we'll find something else to do together.' But then I said, 'I want your blessing to do Old Boy.' He wrote back this beautiful letter and it said, 'I love remakes and I think it's great, just don't do it exactly like we did.'"

Josh, 44, recently revealed the remake of Old Boy will be "severely" violent: "I think we're going to go for it, I think we're going to give 1000 per cent to this one."

Josh Brolin Was Worried About MIB3

Will Smith and Josh BrolinJosh Brolin worried he might "ruin" the whole Men In Black series by appearing in the third movie.

The 44-year-old actor plays Young Agent K in the film alongside Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones - who reprised their roles in the sci-fi movie as Agent J and Agent K respectively - but he was concerned about how his co-stars might react to him joining the film franchise.

"I thought, 'Oh, yeah, this could be a career-killer. I could ruin an entire series, because I'm severing this great iconic duo, this great chemistry that people really enjoy.' If someone came to my franchise and said, 'Listen, you're still going to bookend it, but we're going to bring in this younger guy instead,' I can't imagine I wouldn't be like, 'Huh? What are you talking about?' I don't know if he felt like that. And if he did he'd never tell me."

Despite starring in a number of big blockbusters, Josh - who has been married to actress Diane Lane since 2004 - admits he no longer feels he has to "push" himself in life and doesn't mind taking the "boring" approach.

Men In Black 3 is the ‘Most Action-Packed Movie Yet’

Men in Black 3Men In Black 3 will have "more action, aliens and magic" than the previous two films in the franchise.

The movie's director Barry Sonnenfeld believes the latest addition to the sci-fi comedy series has "something new and inventive" in the shape of a time travel element that sees Agent J (Will Smith) go back in time to the 1960s to stop an alien from assassinating Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones).

"The relationships are incredibly strong. From Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, between Will Smith and Josh Brolin. And I think we also have more action than in Men In Black 3 than in Men In Black and Men In Black 2' Also, more aliens and more magic. The audiences will be amused, amazed and also moved. I think if we can do all of those three things then we'll have a really successful movie. With Men In Black 3, it's not only a Men In Black movie, it's also a time travel movie. We wanted the movie to be both familiar and different. We wanted to bring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones back together again. But we also wanted something new and inventive, and that came in the time travel element," he said when asked what the chemistry was like between Will and Josh Brolin - who plays a younger version of Agent K.

Elizabeth Olsen to Star in Old Boy

Elizabeth OlsenElizabeth Olsen is expected to take the lead female role in Old Boy.

The 22-year-old actress has been offered the part by director Spike Lee after Rooney Mara and Mia Wasikowska turned it down. The film is a new version of Park Chan-wook's classic movie and if she signs up, Elizabeth will star alongside Josh Brolin, who will take on the lead male role.

The movie focuses on a man named Joe (Dae-su Oh in the original) who is captured and imprisoned in a hotel room for over two decades (15 years in the original) with no understanding as to why. When he is suddenly released, he's told that he has just four days to determine the reason for his imprisonment with the help of Elizabeth's character Marie.

Although there is not a solid start date, shooting is planned to start "soon."
