James Cameron Hoping to Reunite with Kate Winslet
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Filmmaking,
James Cameron would love to work with Kate Winslet again, but isn’t sure about Leonardo DiCaprio.
The director - who worked alongside Kate and Leonardo when they played the lead roles in Titanic, one of the highest grossing films of all time - said he loved the way The Reader actress worked.
He told Playboy magazine: “I’d certainly work with Kate Winslet again; she’s very talented. Whereas Leo DiCaprio switches his acting on and off like a faucet, Kate’s acting process is to internalize all this stuff and use it.”

Kate Winslet Takes on Joan Crawford Role
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Adaptation, Drama, Remakes, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
Big mistake. Rumor has it that Mildred Pierce, the 1945 joint that won Joan Crawford an Oscar, is going to be remade as a TV miniseries. Further rumor has it said series will air on HBO. And who’s starring in the title role? Kate Winslet.
Don’t get me wrong. I mean, she’s a fine actress. But Joan Crawford? Even Faye Dunaway later regretted trying to take on this silver screen icon.

The 2009 Academy Awards: Live Commentary
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Awards,
After a year away from live Oscars coverage, I’m thrilled to be back for the 2009 Academy Awards.
Even though Dark Knight‘s snub will probably keep a number of viewers away (how many can honestly say they’ve seen The Reader?), I’m eagerly anticipating several moments from this evening’s broadcast.
Will Heath Ledger’s family bring the house to tears? Is Mickey Rourke going to make the producers wince? Will the cameras pan to Brangelina after Jennifer Aniston’s presentation? Are Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron really (really?) going to do a song and dance number?
To find out if this will be the year of the Slumdog or the underdog, stay tuned here for the live results!

No More Nudity for Kate Winslet
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip,
If an Oscar nomination isn’t reason enough for you to finally see The Reader, consider this: That may be the last film Kate Winslet ever strips down for again.
In the current issue of Time, the two-time Golden Globe winner and current Oscar nominee claims her days of opening up for the camera are completely over. “I think I won’t do it again: a) I can’t keep getting away with it, and b) I don’t want to become ‘that actress who always gets her kit off’,” the 33-year-old explained.

Five Lovable Big Screen Couples
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Adaptation, Musicals, Romance, Comedy, Casting,
Love is in air in February - or at least, it’s all over the entertainment industry. Retailers vie for our money, love-soaked television episodes hope for big ratings. The sappier the better, because doesn’t romance put everyone in a spending mood? In Hollywood, love stories are popular all year ‘round - but which lovable big screen couples continue to endure when other romances seems to fade? Some leading ladies and big screen hunks seem to have more chemistry than the average pair, and we love to watch them fall in love again and again.
Let’s look back at five lovable big screen couples, and see what happens when pretend romance is done right.
Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta - They were both in their twenties when they filmed Grease, but they were the perfect High School couple. The enduring tale of bad-boy-falls-for-good-girl is perhaps best represented with rollicking music and 50s-era fashion - or at least, it’s more enjoyable that way. It’s all thanks to Sandy and Danny, who are so very lovable together.

Winslet, Rourke Awarded with BAFTAs
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Awards,
While it’s looking pretty clear that Slumdog Millionaire will take home the Oscar later this month, the race for Best Actor and Best Actress remains a bit muddy.
At yesterday’s Orange British Academy Film Awards, Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler) and Kate Winslet (The Reader) both took home the top honors for acting. Although this is similar to how they performed at the Golden Globes, neither actor was a winner at the recent SAG Awards. (Sean Penn and Meryl Streep took home the statues that evening.)

2009 Academy Award Nominations
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Awards,
Despite no major wins for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button at Jan. 11’s Golden Globes, the film lead all entries at this morning’s Academy Award nominations. The Brad Pitt feature will go into next month’s ceremony with 13 opportunities to walk away with at least one statue. (Slumdog Millionaire will have 10 chances.)
Here are some of the noteworthy mentions from today’s press conference:
- Kate Winslet (The Reader) - a double-winner just a few weeks ago - only received one nomination this morning. Meryl Streep will only get one chance as well for her role in Doubt.
- Although it wasn’t represented at the Globes, Frozen River was recognized several times today.
- Heath Ledger‘s nomination (on the anniversary of his death!) was expected; The Dark Knight‘s omission was a disappointment.
- Four acting nods for Doubt didn’t equate to an honor for the film.
- Several pleasant announcements in the Best Actor/Supporting Actor categories: Richard Jenkins (The Visitor), Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) and Robert Downey Jr. (Tropic Thunder). Shannon got the only major nom for his picture.
