Austin Powers: The Shrek films may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean Mike Myers can’t tread into familiar territory. According to director Jay Roach, it’s quite possible we’ll be seeing another Austin Powers film. “You know, I hope so,” Roach said when asked about a sequel. “Mike’s working on ideas for it, people are definitely talking about it and I’m always good for it. I love those characters.”

Box Office Breakdown: Wimpy Kid Bests the Bounty Hunter

Two out of three ain’t bad.
Although Hollywood has yet to present a real threat to Alice in Wonderland, two studios this weekend made strong attempts. Diary of a Wimpy Kid, based on a series of Jeff Kinney books, proved there was more than enough room for kid-friendly fare at the box office. Fox’s adaptation unfolded to over $22 million in ticket sales - approximately $12 million shy of the three-time winner, but enough for second place.
The Bounty Hunter - starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler - also managed to nab a decent bounty for itself during this frame. Sony’s critically-panned comedy grossed over $20 million, falling just short of Diary.
Meanwhile, Repo Men, Friday’s only other wide release, came a distant fourth with $6.1 million.

Box Office Breakdown: Alice in Wonderland in the Green Zone
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: 20th Century Fox, Disney, Fox Searchlight, Paramount, Universal, Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Animation, Drama, Family, Horror, Romance, Comedy, Thrillers, Box Office, Lists,
The combined forces of Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass could not earn Green Zone the green.
Although the film nearly matched The Hurt Locker‘s total domestic gross ($15.7 million) in just one weekend, Green became the latest war-based film to open to underwhelming numbers. The movie, which debuted to $14.3 million and cost approximately $100 million to produce, also came nowhere near Damon and Greengrass’ last project together. (The Bourne Ultimatum opened to $69.3 million in 2007.)
Meanwhile, Alice in Wonderland continued along its fantastic journey. The movie, which has now taken in over $209 million domestically, has officially become one of Disney’s Top 20 all-time entries.

2010 Academy Award Nominations
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: DreamWorks, FOCUS, Disney, Lionsgate, Paramount, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros, Weinstein Company, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Animation, Biopics, Drama, Family, Music, Musicals, Period, Science Fiction, Comedy, Sports, Thrillers, Awards, Celeb News, Lists,
After the list of Academy Award nominees were announced this morning, two movies rose to the top of the pack. Avatar and The Hurt Locker - helmed respectively by James Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow - both lead the field with nine nominations each. Thankfully, the formerly married directors still get along.
Even though this will be the first time since 1943 (when Casablanca won) that ten films will go up for Best Film, this year’s list only revealed a handful of surprises. Those who have been following other ceremonies during this awards season saw very little changes in the acting categories.
Here are some of the noteworthy mentions/omissions from today’s nominations:
- Many had hoped The Hangover, Star Trek and/or (500) Days of Summer would go up for Best Picture. Many were left disappointed.
- Is this the first time Daniel Day-Lewis wasn’t nominated for simply breathing?
- Acting queen Meryl Streep is up now up for her sweet 16th nomination for her role in Julie & Julia. (I believe I will one day see her 20th.)
- Speaking of leading women, there will be three newcomers going up against vets Streep and Helen Mirren (The Last Station): Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side), Carey Mulligan (An Education) and Gabourey Sidibe (Precious)—someone who wasn’t even an actress to begin with!
- Disney/Pixar’s Up will be double-dipping it this year. The feature has been nominated in both the Best Film and Best Animated Film categories.

Brad Pitt and Matt Damon have Happy Feet
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Warner Bros, Animation, Family, Sequels, Comedy, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
Brad Pitt and Matt Damon will voice characters in Happy Feet 2.
The acting pair - who last starred together in Ocean’s Thirteen - have both signed up to star in the animated movie, which follows a group of singing penguins.
The two are reportedly recording their parts this week.
Both Elijah Wood and Robin Williams, who participated in the 2006 original, will return for the sequel as will director George Miller, who plans to shoot the movie in 3-D.
Happy Feet 2 is set for release in November 2011.
Box Office Breakdown: Avatar Dominating the Globe

An absence of new movies meant very little change for the overall box office standings. A lack of competition, though, meant lots of movement for Avatar.
Over the weekend, the sci-fi extravaganza packed an additional $68.5 million to its already-impressive domestic total. The figure - a record for any entry in its third week - brought the film that much closer to becoming one of the top domestic grossers ever. Avatar ($352.1 million) is now only days away from passing 10th place finisher Star Wars: Episode III—Revenge of the Sith ($380.3 million).
Internationally, James Cameron is just a few rungs away from one of his other films. In just 17 days, the 20th Century Fox release has pulled in approximately $1.02 billion. That places Avatar behind only Titanic ($1.84 billion), The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.12 billion) and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest ($1.07 billion).

Sandra Bullock Named Hollywood’s Top Star
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Box Office, Celeb News,
Quigley Publishing’s yearly list of the biggest money-making stars in the film industry shows Sandra Bullock at the top of the heap, even over A-list male actors like George Clooney and Denzel Washington.
Bullock scored big with The Proposal and The Blind Side, pushing her own box office value way up.
Bullock is the eighth actress to make it to the top of the list in the last seventy-plus years. Julia Roberts was the last female to top the list, which she did in 1999.
Johnny Depp scored the number two position on this year’s list, with Matt Damon, George Clooney, Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Hanks trailing successively.
Quigley has been keeping track of the top industry stars since 1932.
