Shaun of the Dead’s Simon Pegg Joins ‘Star Trek’ Film

Simon PeggJust last week we announced intriguing casting news for the upcoming film:  Eric Bana as the film’s villian, Nero.  (I wonder if this was the part Russell Crowe was rumored for.)  Now we have more news to whet your appetites.  Actor (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) is signed on to play Scotty; (Harold and Kumar) will take over the role of Sulu.  With the exception of James T. Kirk (an actor is supposedly being finalized), most of the characters have now been filled.  As a refresher:

  • John Cho: Sulu
  • Simon Pegg: Scotty
  • Eric Bana: Nero
  • Zoe Saldana (Haven): Uhura
  • Anton Yelchin (Alpha Dog): Chekov
  • Zachary Quinto (): young Spock
  • Leonard Nimoy: Spock


Not much is known about the script, though it is believed the movie will depict the Enterprise’s early days.  Shooting for the film will begin in November.

Good News for ‘Star Trek’ Fans

Original Star Trek series castOkay, I’ll admit it: I’m a Trekkie. I try not to take it to a dark place; I’ve never dressed up in costume or downloaded Enterprise schematics online. I do know what the ‘T’ stands for in James T. Kirk, and admit I’ve avidly watched every episode. Ever. So I, like many Star Trek fans out there, feel pretty stoked about the new movie. And more information is coming out of the galaxy every day. will play a villain in the flick, which is set for a Christmas 2008 release. So far, news on the film is good for Trek fans. has given the film his approval, which is said to focus on Spock – and that all sounds very promising to Trekkies of all kinds.


Will Russell Crowe Join ‘Star Trek’ Film?

Russell CroweAccording to the New York Post, may be dismounting his horse and going sci-fi for his next venture.

If the reports are true, we could see the 3:10 to Yuma star boldly heading where no man has gone before in the latest movie.  The details of his role are vague, but he’s being courted to play the villain in the series’ 11th installment.

The Return of Mr. Spock

Star Trek, the original series We’ve come a long way since the original Star Trek that captivated the imaginations of a generation. Several movies, four full-fledged series, and a million Trekkie conventions later, the Star Trek machine is still churning…and Leonard Nimoy is still Mr. Spock (whose first name, as we know, is unpronounceable). Nimoy will put the pointy ears on again to reprise his role in the newest Star Trek flick, which will be released in Christmas of 2008. Zachary Quinto, who looks rather like Nimoy and will play the young version of Spock, stood with the 76-year-old actor when the announcement was made at a recent convention. William Shatner is also said to have an appearance in the upcoming film, as none other than James T. Kirk, though this is as yet unconfirmed. During the convention, a fan asked Nimoy how he felt about being “replaced” by Quinto, to which Nimoy replied “It was logical.” You said it, Mr. Spock.
