Target Date For ‘Transformers’ Sequel

I believe this is what you call putting the cart before the horse..
Although no director, producer or star have yet been confirmed for the project, a target date has already been set for a Transformers sequel. While Michael Bay and Shia LeBeouf are expected to return, Steven Spielberg’s participation is currently up in the air. An ongoing dispute between Spielberg’s Dreamworks and its parent company, Paramount, could unfortunately put a wrench in everyone’s plans. But it’s hoped production can at least begin before a possible Actors Guild strike next year.
If all things go as planned, expect to see the film on June 26th…2009.

Official Title Announced for ‘Indiana Jones’

In a truly auspicious moment at Sunday’s Video Music Awards, Shia LeBeouf announced the title of the upcoming fourth installment in the Indiana Jones series:
So I’ve been sworn to secrecy by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas not to tell you the title of the next Indiana Jones movie. What the hell, I’m 21 and we’re in Vegas, baby, so here it goes. The official title to the next Indiana Jones installment: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
The much-anticipated film has already been filming for several months and will star Harrison Ford, Shia LeBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Jim Broadbent, John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Karen Allen. It’s scheduled to open in theatres May 22, 2008.
Does anyone else think the title is a bit busy? I mean, at least Raiders of the Lost Ark was officially titled as such, without the Indiana Jones and the
at the beginning. It could be worse, I suppose—how about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Shiny Crystal Skull or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that Bites People. Imagine if M. Night Shyamalan, once offered a chance to write the screenplay, had penned the script: Indiana Jones and the Amish Comic Book Alien in the Water that Sees Dead People. Scary. But I’d love to see the poster.
Oh well, I suppose the title has little to do with the content—let’s hope that the film supersedes its bloated moniker, hmm?

Bee Movie: A Honey of a Flick?

Former NBC golden boy Jerry Seinfeld, who lives on in syndicated sitcom glory every single day, will celebrate the release of his Bee Movie project this fall. Seinfeld co-wrote the script and lent his voice talent to the film, alongside co-star Renee Zellweger. Dreamworks, the company famous for the Shrek franchise, is behind the Bee Movie – a regular bee-meets-girl kinda thing. The bee in Bee Movie is Barry B. Benson (Seinfeld), who meets and becomes pals with a human florist (Zellweger). The impressive trailers have featured everything from animated clips to funny one-liners delivered by Seinfeld (in a huge bee costume) and director Steven Spielberg, and the Dreamworks association is promising. Could Bee Movie be enough to propel Seinfeld back into the celebrity A-list? Animated bees are funny, right?

Shia LaBeouf Confirmed for ‘Indy 4’

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas announced Friday that Shia LaBeouf will star in the upcoming fourth installment of Indiana Jones. This comes – as many similar announcements these days tend to – after months of Internet rumors and buzz surrounding the 20-year-old actor and the undoubtedly epic film, set to release on May 22nd, 2008. Cate Blanchett has also been attached to the sequel, though it is unknown what characters either actor will play – plot details are still a mystery. LaBeouf, already a veteran of television and film, has recently said that he is ready to drop his childlike image and focus on more mature roles. With the recent release of Disturbia, a modern-day, Rear Window-esque thriller, the upcoming Transformers, and a high-profile action-adventure flick like Indiana Jones 4, LaBeouf shouldn’t have any trouble steering clear of youthful typecasting. Cate Blanchett to Star in Fourth ‘Indiana Jones’

Cate Blanchet (Notes on a Scandal, The Aviator) was recently in negotiations for a starring role in the fourth installment of Indiana Jones, according to her publicist. The role will place Blanchett in the oft-occupied female space next to Indy, hopefully allowing her to exude a strong, supporting presence that is typical of her performances. Much remains unknown about the long-awaited film, but keep checking back for all updates right here on FilmCrunch.
The fourth installment of the Indiana Jones series will be directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by George Lucas, and will star – as always – Harrison Ford.

Fourth Indiana Jones Film to Premiere in ‘08.

It’s the announcement moviegoers have been waiting for – the fourth ‘Indy’ installment is definitely coming, Harrison, George, and Steven will be in their respective roles, and it’s all happening in the near future. Before now, the will was there, along with the talent, but no official statement had been made regarding the film. The script, which spent over ten years in development, has finally been completed and greenlit by the mighty triumvirate and “is going to be the best one yet,” according to Lucas. Ford and Spielberg have also expressed great joy and excitement about the project, claiming that fans should expect a story that delivers on the same level as the first three.
Although many of the film’s details remain under wraps – including the official title, locations, and plot – the hype and public extolment from the people who best know the series are enough to excite even the most doubtful of naysayers. The fourth chapter in the series will begin shooting sometime later this year. Look for any updates on casting, plot, or official release right here on FilmCrunch.

Monster House DVD Review

Monster House is the computer animated tale of an awkward young boy, DJ, and his friends Chowder and Jenny, as they investigate the spooky house across the street and the evil old man (Mr. Nebbercracker) residing within. When Nebbercracker is suddenly injured and hospitalized, the three decide to take a closer look, discovering, to their horror, that the house itself is actually alive, its intentions quite malicious. With Halloween soon approaching, the children must destroy the horrible home before unsuspecting trick-or-treaters are caught in its insatiable grasp. While it may be a bit scary for your preschooler, Monster House is a unique film full of slow, concentrated intensity in a genre often geared toward fidgety children and their fleeting attention spans.
