Efron vs. Timberlake: Who’s Going to Memphis?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Musicals, Period, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors

Forget that silly Team Edward vs. Team Jacob rivalry. The real question is “Are you Team Zac or Team Justin?”
That’s the unfortunate decision one studio may have to make if an adaptation of Memphis comes to fruition. The Broadway production could soon be headed to the big screen, and rumor has it Zac Efron and Justin Timberlake are both interested in the same role.

Box Office Breakdown: Victory for The Other Guys

Will Ferrell is no longer stuck in the Land of the Lost.
After stinking up the theaters last summer with his science fiction remake, Ferrell has rebounded nicely with The Other Guys. Sony’s buddy-cop flick opened to $35.5 million over the weekend, giving the funnyman his second highest debut ever. (Talledega Nights rang in $47 million in August 2006.) The comedy also performed well for Mark Wahlberg. It was his best outing since Planet of the Apes’ $68.5 million kickoff in 2001.
Unfortunately, 3-D screens and So You Think You Can Dance plugs couldn’t push Step Up 3D further up the charts. The $40 million film only grossed $15.8 million in ticket sales while coming in lower than the first two installments. (Step Up premiered to $20.7 million in 2006 while Step Up 2 the Streets opened to $18.9 million in 2008.)

Box Office Breakdown: Dinner for Schmucks Comes Up Short
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: DreamWorks, Disney, Paramount, Sony, Universal, Warner Bros, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Animation, Drama, Family, Remakes, Romance, Sequels, Comedy, Thrillers, Box Office, Lists

Fans aren’t quite ready to wake up from the dream just yet.
Despite competition from Steve Carell, Zac Efron and cute animals, Inception managed to continue its reign over the box office. The Christopher Nolan film - which is nearing the $200 million mark - added another $27.5 million to its total and became the third entry of the year to three-peat. (Alice in Wonderland and Shrek Forever After also had three wins under their belts.)
Warner Bros.’ win meant leftovers for Dinner for Schmucks. The Paramount comedy, which cost in the neighborhood of $60 million to produce, only brought $23.5 million to the table.
Meanwhile, Charlie St. Cloud narrowly beat out Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore for fifth place. The two entries were separated by approximately $100,000.

Zac Efron to Take on Coke Dealer Role
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Warner Bros, Drama, Remakes, Thrillers, Casting, Celeb News, Filmmaking, Upcoming Releases
Clean-cut heartthrob Zac Efron is set to play a scheming cocaine smuggler in a new thriller.
The actor - who rose to fame in the popular High School Musical films - is set play a runner for a coke dealer in new movie Snabba Cash - translated Easy Money - an American remake of a Swedish film based on the 2006 novel by Jens Lapidus. The project, which focuses on a group of friends who want to get rich quick by getting involved with drugs and organized crime, has recently been the subject of a Hollywood bidding war.
Warner Bros eventually bought the remake rights - for what is thought to be a six-figure sum - with the intention of casting Zac. The studio is allowing the 22-year-old actor to produce the film with the new company he runs with his manager Jason Barrett, according to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Heat Vision Blog.
Swedish producer Fredrik Wikstrom will also work on the US version, with Michael Hjorth acting as executive producer. The thriller is the latest example of the young actor breaking away from the teen roles which made him a star.
His recent back catalogue of work includes drama Me and Orson Welles and comedy 17 Again.

Zac Efron Thinks Action Role Could be Kiss of Death
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Action, Musicals, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip
Have no fear, Shia—Zac Efron thinks it would be “weird” if he starred in an action movie (despite already having the body for it).
The High School Musical star, who became a teenage heartthrob after appearing in the Disney movie franchise, would love to try his hand at as a screen hero but fears his career could be over if the role wasn’t perfect.
“I would love to try an action film at some point, but not too soon. I think that can be a kiss of death. There’s got to be a real role that I can bring something unique and specific to, a way for me to do it believably. Until then, I think it would just come across as weird.”
The 22-year-old star also revealed he is in awe of actor Leonardo DiCaprio, despite disliking him when he was growing up: “I think Leonardo DiCaprio’s done a great job. I was dead set against the guy when I was growing up, kind of force-fed his image from Titanic. Since then, through very hard work and incredible performances, he’s done a complete 180. Now he’s one of my favorite actors. He’s at the top of his game.”
Zac Efron’s Failed Audition
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrity Gossip
Zac Efron said he performed such an over-the-top audition as a child that he was asked to leave the room.
The actor - who plays a teenage student who, by luck, gets to work with a young Orson Welles in the new coming-of-age drama Me and Orson Welles - said the try-out still haunts him now.
“That was my first experience and I had just done the play Peter Pan so I thought I was… I mean, who could be better. We were all quite young and I wasn’t even playing Peter I was playing John but I’d watched loads of actors play Peter so I showed up at the audition and I was dancing around and jumping off things and being crazy like lost boys you know,” Efron recalled.
“I ran around, I jumped up on my chair and started singing the lines and then she interrupted me, she goes, ‘You’ve never done this before have you?’ and I said, ‘no, not at all.’ And she said, ‘OK, you can go.’”
The 22-year-old revealed he broke down in tears after he was rejected. “It was completely my fault; I thought I was auditioning for the play. I kinda wept about that one,” Zac admitted.
Quote of the Day: Zac Efron on His Unwatchable Films
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celebrity Gossip

“It’s the first time I’ve ever watched a movie [that I’m in] and in the end I’m like, ‘OK! I didn’t check my watch once!’”
-Zac Efron on viewing his upcoming film, Me and Orson Welles, for the first time.
