Quote of the Day: Ryan Gosling on His Non-Canadian Accent
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celebrity Gossip

“As a kid I decided that a Canadian accent doesn’t sound tough. I thought guys should sound like Marlon Brando. So now I have a phony accent that I can’t shake, so it’s not phony anymore. I’m going for the Madonna thing, the Lady Gaga thing—a phony accent that becomes your trademark.”

Don’t Make Fun of Russell Crowe’s Accents

There’s one thing actors who play Robin Hood seem to have a problem with: the accent.
Although it wouldn’t seem hard to improve upon Kevin Costner’s vocal abilities in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, at least one critic out there is having problems with Russell Crowe’s attempt. Unfortunately, that same person made the mistake of letting the Oscar winner know that.

Quote of the Day: Ben Affleck Wowed by Blake Lively’s Acting
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Warner Bros, Adaptation, Drama, Casting, Celeb News

“The whole movie kind of hinges in a lot of ways on her performance, and I knew it was going to be the hardest part to cast… This girl came in, and no one had said to me beforehand, ‘Hey, look for this person.’ And obviously she was really attractive, and so I thought, Oh, here comes some blond girl. She came in, did one reading, and just crushed it. Like, Boston accent — really good. I was sort of stunned. I said, ‘Jeez, you know, that was really f——-g good. Who are you?’ She didn’t mention that she was on a television show… I want to be on the record because I think she’s really going to blow up, and I want to look like the smart guy. I didn’t quite discover her, but at least I want to say I bought the stock when it wasn’t $500 a share.”
-Director Ben Affleck on hiring actress Gossip Girl‘s Blake Lively - an actress he wasn’t familiar with - for his upcoming movie The Town.

New Valkyrie Trailer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: MGM, Drama, Period, Political, Thrillers, Trailers, Upcoming Releases
Weeks after being placed on the 2008 calendar, MGM has released a second trailer for Valkyrie. The movie - which as received a lot of press for all the wrong reasons - stars Tom Cruise as a German officer plotting to take down Hitler. Unfortunately, those still hoping for a hint of an accent (like I was) or any deviation from the star’s Mission Impossible persona may still be disappointed by this new clip.
Tell us what you think. Is it wrong for me to expect an Oscar-nominated actor - someone who at least attempted an accent in Far and Away - to sound less like an action star?
Valkyrie, also starring Terence Stamp, Kenneth Branagh and Tom Wilkinson, opens December 26.
Tom Cruise’s Strangely Missing Accent
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: MGM, Action, Drama, Period, Political, Celebrity Gossip, Trailers, Upcoming Releases

After viewing a teaser trailer for Valkyrie, I now see why Tom Cruise’s film may be in need of a few delays.
In this WWII movie, the actor plays Col. Claus von Stauffenberg - a German officer who plots to take down Adolf Hitler. Granted, I haven’t seen the film yet, but I highly doubt the character ever took voice lessons by watching videos of Mission Impossible.
You can listen to his laughable performance after the jump.
