Remake News: American Gladiators, Let the Right One In and More

American Gladiators

American Gladiators: A theatrical version of the NBC series has just been given a screenwriter. Patriot Games’ Peter Iliff will be crafting American Gladiators, an entirely different games-related story. The redo will reportedly treat the muscular stars as superhero-type characters. No word whether they’ll be watching over the city from their perch above the Sky Track or on top of The Wall.

American Gladiators Storms Into Theaters

American Gladiators

The series might not be coming back to NBC anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean American Gladiators is dead. According to Variety, the arena classic will soon be pumped up for the big screen.

Although it’s unclear what the production will entail, the live-action adaptation will apparently be about more than just the competition. “I look forward to creating a compelling story that launches a whole new set of characters,” producer Scott Mednick (300, Where the Wild Things Are) said.

As hard as it might seem to believe, Johnny Ferraro, the show’s creator, claims Gladiators was always meant to be seen in multiplexes. The original concept was supposedly intended for theaters, but it “took a detour and became a TV phenomenon.”

No start date has been announced for the action-filled project.

YouTube Goes Full-Length

Tired of snippets? Bored with small clips, when you want the whole show? YouTube will soon team up with MGM to offer full-length movies and TV shows through the video-sharing site.

At the start of this partnership, YouTubers will have the chance to watch original American Gladiators episodes in a single channel, while another channel will offer the films Bulletproof Monk and The Magnificent Seven. Clips from other movies, including Legally Blonde, will also be available.

Still not excited? Everything that’s offered will still be free! Ads will run alongside the videos to make up for this lack of pay-to-watch fees. Last month, YouTube worked out similar partnerships so the site could start airing full-length episodes of and Beverly Hills, 90210.
