Joe Wright Set to Direct Adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s Next Book

Anna Karenenina director Joe Wright has found his next project: the film adaptation of cult fantasy author Neil Gaiman's latest novel.
Focus Features and Tom Hanks's Playtone have picked up the rights to turn the text - titled The Ocean at the End of the Lane and hits bookstores this June - into film form. The snyopsis is as follows:
"It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Dark creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and menace unleashed — within his family and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it. His only defense is three women, on a farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is an ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang."
The subject matter seems like a far departure from Wright, who is known for his period dramas like Pride & Prejudice and Atonement. There is no word yet in regards to casting.

Twilight Author Stephenie Meyer Visits Oprah

To a different age group, this interview could be bigger than the one with Sarah Palin.
In just a few days from now, Twilight author Stephenie Meyer will be sitting on Oprah Winfrey’s stage. The chat, which comes just two weeks before New Moon finally debuts, will be the only one the writer grants during this promotional tour.
Meyer recently explained the reasoning behind her solo press interview on her blog. “You know I’ve been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I’m not changing that now, but I am making an exception. I’m doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with New Moon that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I’m only doing one interview, better make it big,” she wrote.
Look for Stephenie on The Oprah Winfrey Show this Friday, Nov. 13th.

Miley Cyrus Gets Custom-Made Nicholas Sparks Film

It looks as if Miley Cyrus is one step closer to finally leaving her Hannah Montana alter ego behind her.
Recently, the pop star hinted that her Disney show could soon be nearing an end. This is probably why the studio has moved on to Phase 2 of their commodity’s career: Put Miley In More Adult Fare.
After hearing that Cyrus was interested in appearing in film’s like A Walk to Remember (starring former bubble gum princess Mandy Moore), execs contacted the story’s creator. Realizing a golden opportunity when he saw one, author Nicholas Sparks not only agreed to work with Miley, he decided to write a screenplay specifically for her.
