Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson says she fought hard for her role in .

The 25-year-old actress - who plays sexy Russian spy Black Widow in the superhero movie - admitted she actively campaigned for the part after actress dropped out because of scheduling conflicts.

“I was a huge fan of the first movie and was quite ‘geek-ed’ out at being part of the second one. I see her as being determined and ambitious,” she said.

First Look: Iron Man 2, Robin Hood Trailers

These two new clips focus on two entirely different types of “heroes.” In the first trailer, the central character uses bows as his primary weapons. In the second - well, the tools are a bit more high-tech.

Robin Hood reunites Oscar winner with his Gladiator director, Ridley Scott, for a retelling of the famous 13th century-tale. The film, which promises to give us “The story behind the legend. The hero behind the outlaw,” also features Cate Blanchett as Lady Marion, the outlaw’s love interest, and Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes) as Sir Godfrey.

Scarlett Johansson Talks ‘Iron Man 2’

Scarlett Johansson as Black WidowNewlywed Scarlett Johansson seems to have her eyes on comic book roles as of late. First was last year’s The Spirit; next up is the highly-anticipated sequel to Jon Favreau’s Iron Man as Natasha Romanoff, a.k.a. Black Widow.

Despite her scoring several Golden Globe nominations, Johansson wasn’t offered the role—Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada) was in line to portray the Russian spy. After Blunt dropped out due to scheduling conflicts, Johansson was quick to take action:

“I actually met with [director] Jon Favreau and [Marvel Studios executive] Kevin Feige a year before pre-production started. We just talked about some of the super heroines in the Marvel Universe and one of them was Black Widow. I think they were kind of toying with the idea of putting the character into the film and how they would work it in and all that. When I met Jon the second time I had red hair and a part of that, I think, was me wanting to experiment with my hair color and the other part of that was me kind of hoping that Jon would like the fact that I was experimenting.”

Iron Man 2 Cast Buffed and Filming

Iron Man 2

Mickey Rourke recently put on his Whiplash costume in preparation to work on , and his rippling muscles certainly won’t be alone on the set. Rourke’s costume will show off his tattoos and an electromagnet that’s very similar to the one worn by Tony Stark. With leather and iron braces showing off his buffed-up bod, Rourke will no doubt make a big impression on the big screen.

But he’s not the only actor who will have audiences staring at the screen in wide-eyed wonder. Scarlett Johansson has packed on the muscular pounds for her role as Black Widow and star is in Iron Man-ready shape for the production.

Don Cheadle (who replaced Terrence Howard) and Gwyneth Paltrow will also be featured in the flick, which is scheduled to hit theaters on May 7, 2010.

Iron Man 2: Emily Blunt In, Samuel L. Jackson Out?

Emily BluntSamuel L. Jackson

Ever since news leaked about Mickey Rourke’s possible Iron Man 2 appearance, the casting scoop has been coming fast and furious.

Despite Samuel L. Jackson’s brief appearance as Nick Fury at the end of Iron Man, the Spirit actor recently told the LA Times that he might not be participating in the next feature - or the already announced Avengers franchise - after all.

“There was a huge kind of negotiation that broke down. I don’t know. Maybe I won’t be Nick Fury. Maybe somebody else will be Nick Fury or maybe Nick Fury won’t be in it. There seems to be an economic crisis in the Marvel Comics world so [they’re saying to me], ‘We’re not making that deal.’”

If true, Jackson would be the second person to lose out because of financial matters. Last October, contract negotiations were cited as the main reason behind Terrence Howard’s replacement.
