Nightmare Before Christmas Director Provides Sneak Peek Into Coraline

Fans of The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Sandman graphic novel will have much to celebrate for come this December with Coraline.
The director of the Disney classic, Henry Selick, as well as Beowulf writer Neil Gaiman have teamed up for the upcoming stop-motion film, which follows a young girl named Coraline who walks through a door that ultimately takes her to an alternate version of her life.
Judging by the behind-the-scenes clip (seen after the jump), the look and feel of the movie are sure to please fans of both collaborators. Watching the painstaking task of stop-motion animation, I now have a newfound appreciation for the art.
The film stars Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, and Jennifer Saunders (Shrek 2).

King Kong’s 75th Anniversary

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the original King Kong, three television networks will be teaming up to honor the classic film.
On April 7th, Turner Classic Movies will broadcast the 1933 movie starring screen legend Fay Wray as Ann Darrow. This black-and-white RKO production, which debuted during the height of the Depression era, earned more than $1.7 million during its run.
Four days later, TNT, TBS and TCM will simulcast an airing of the 2005 version with Naomi Watts in the lead role. Although a remake featuring Jessica Lange hit theaters in 1976, Peter Jackson‘s update is considered truer to the original.
Immediately after April 7’s showing, Turner Classic Movies will air four other films hitting their diamond anniversaries: Dinner at Eight, Little Women, 42nd Street and Queen Christina.

Blockbuster vs. The Beatles

I’m pretty sure my local Blockbuster has committed artistic blasphemy. Allow me to explain:
About a week ago, I was in the mood for something fun and nostalgic, so I swung by Blockbuster to rent a copy of Help!, which, for anyone who doesn’t know, is the second film The Beatles made.
Now, Blockbuster didn’t carry it, and that doesn’t shock me too much as it’s not one of the more monumental of their films. But, upon further prying, I discovered that they didn’t have A Hard Day’s Night, Magical Mystery Tour, or Let It Be either. The very nice girl at the counter did tell me (with a degree of excitement), that they carried Across the Universe, which she thought was just ... awesome. At this point, I had to quickly excuse myself before I began to do my hostile re-education routine on a complete stranger.

Watts And Campbell For ‘The Birds’

With Halloween only a week and a half away, it seems only fitting that we hear more news about the remake of The Birds. First brought to the big screen in 1963 by “The Master of Suspense“ Alfred Hitchcock, Universal has been planning a re-imagining of the terrifying classic for some time now.
The absolutely gorgeous Naomi Watts (King Kong, The Ring) will star while Casino Royale director Martin Campbell is in talks to helm the film. Variety reports that Universal is not rushing the film due to the looming possibility of a Hollywood strike. Michael Bay is among the several names reported to be producing the film via Platinum Dunes and Mandalay Pictures.
Watts, who can soon be seen in Warner Independent’s Funny Games, is filming The International and will also appear in the overly titled Kicked, Bitten and Scratched: Life and Lessons at the World’s Premiere School for Exotic Animal Trainers.
