First Look: Check Out the New Talent in Fame


If the judges of and American Idol ever taught at a high school, it might look a little something like this.

Later this fall, a new crop of aspiring performers will hit the big screen in , an update of the 1980 hit film. The movie, like the original, will center around students at New York High School of Performing Arts. Tutelage will be provided a number of television vets including Megan Mullaley, Bebe Neuwirth, Kelsey Grammar and Charles S. Dutton.

SYTYCD followers will also see two familiar faces. Season 4 contestant Kherington Payne will be featured as one of the students while choreographer Debbie Allen - who played Lydia Grant in both the film and the TV series - has been cast as Principal Simms.

Fame debuts on September 25.

Fame: The previously announced remake has just secured its administrative lineup. The film, an update of the 1980 original, will once again follow the lives of students at New York High School of Performing Arts. Those guiding the talented crop include Megan Mullaley, Bebe Neuwirth, Kelsey Grammar and Charles S. Dutton. Debbie Allen - a veteran of the first film - will also join the cast as Principal Simms, an entirely new character.

Cast Members for Fame Remake Announced

Fame 1980Although it’s about time for Hollywood to start making over projects from the 90’s, MGM has decided it will be retooling a classic from 1980.

Realizing are not dead to theatergoers, the studio is planning to bring a new version of Fame to today’s audiences. The update - like the Academy-Award winning original - will take place at the New York High School of Performing Arts and feature a wide range of talented artists including dancers, pianists and filmmakers.

Instead of waiting to release the movie on the original’s 30th anniversary, MGM has scheduled the premiere for September 25, 2009.

Actors already selected for the remake include Kristy Flores, Paul Iacono, Paul McGill, Naturi Naughton, Kay Panabaker, Kherington Payne, Collins Pennie, Walter Perez and Anna Maria Perez de Tagle. (Followers of might remember Kherington’s name from Season 4 of the competition.)
