Box Office Breakdown: Bourne Takes Down the Dark Knight

With a little help from the Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis comedy The Campaign, the latest Bourne film -- which sees Jeremy Renner replace Matt Damon in the starring role -- The Bourne Legacy was able to make its way past The Dark Knight Rises to the top of the box office this past weekend with $40.2 million.
Ferrell's political comedy debuted in second place with $27.4 million, bumping last week's number one, The Dark Knight Rises, to number three with $19.5 million. The Meryl Streep romantic comedy Hope Springs debuted at number four with $15.6 million while Diary of Wimpy Kid: Dog Days slipped two spots to number five with $8.2 million.

Total Recall is No Match for Batman

It sure looks like no one is stopping the Batman anytime soon.
Christopher Nolan's final installment of his Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises, continues its reign at the box office, taking in $36.4 million in its third weekend. The Total Recall remake and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days debuted, respectively, at number two and three with $26 million and $14.7 million. Ice Age: Continental Drift was bumped down two spots to number four with $8.4 million while The Watch also fell two spots to number five with $6.3 million.
