Kanye West Making a Movie with Bret Easton Ellis

Bret Easton Ellis and Kanye West

Kanye West is making a movie with Bret Easton Ellis.

The controversial author was initially reluctant to work with the "Bound 2" hitmaker, but was instantly won over when he heard the rapper's latest album Yeezus, though he is unsure when the project will go ahead. "It's in Kanye Land, and that's subject to a whole other time frame," offered Ellis on the status of the film. "He came and asked me to write the film. I didn't want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus. It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He'd given me an advance copy, and I thought, regardless of whether I'm right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So f**k it, I said yes. And that's how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We'll see what happens."

Lupita Nyong'o and Ralph Fiennes

Lupita Nyong'o says Ralph Fiennes' advice inspired her to become an actress.

The 30-year-old star has been catapulted into the limelight with various awards and nominations for her performance in 12 Years a Slave but admits she hadn't fully committed to a career in acting until she met Ralph while working as a production assistant on his film The Constant Gardener. "He asked me what I wanted to do with my life, and I very timidly admitted that I was interested in being an actor. He sighed and said, 'If there's something else that you want to do, do that. Only act if you feel you can't live without it.' It wasn't what I wanted to hear, but it was the thing I needed to hear," she said.

Paul Thomas Anderson Wants to Make a Film Like ‘Ted’

Paul Thomas AndersonTalk about a change of pace! Known for his riveting dramas, Paul Thomas Anderson recently revealed that he would like to follow up his Oscar-worthy film The Master with a comedy.

"Soon hopefully. I have to write it. It sounds daunting. I'd like to make a film like Airplane!. That never gets old. Or Ted. It was a big hit. Why? Because it’s great. Movies that are that big a hit are never f****** bad," the writer-director said when asked when he would be filming his comedy.

Although his films have always had some hints of dark comedy in them, I wouldn't be surprised if his partner - Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph - had a little bit to do with his new vision!

Considering the introduction of Joaquin Phoenix's character in The Master and the legendary milkshake scene in There Will Be Blood, I have a feeling that Anderson will transition just fine into a humorous venture.

Quote of the Day: James Franco on Spring Breakers

Spring Breakers

"I had a sense that it was going to jump around in different ways. But it’s not as if that inhibited me — I felt like I could just go for it. But even when [director Harmony Korine] sent me that first treatment, [he] said I want this to feel like a Britney Spears video meets a Gaspar Noé film, which says a lot."

- James Franco talks about the inspiration behind his latest film, Spring Breakers, helmed by Trash Humpers writer-director Harmony Korine.

Tom Hardy to Star in a Musical

Tom HardyTom Hardy is set to swap movies for musicals.

The Lawless actor has revealed he's closely involved in the development of a new stage production called Harold's Harem, which he will star in.

Tom - who will appear in this year's latest Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises - describes the musical as a "crazy piece of work" and he can't wait to get started on the project.
Speaking about his character, he told the Daily Mail, "Harold's a cross between two guys Robert De Niro has played in Martin Scorsese films, The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver.
Think of Taxi Driver as a Bollywood movie and Harold's Harem is somewhere where all those - The King of Comedy, Taxi Driver and Bollywood - meet."

However, Tom was coy when asked if he would be singing and dancing in the production, saying, "It's not a traditional musical."

He added that he thought it would be a serious piece more in the vein of the Civil Rights breakthrough musical Caroline Or Change that transferred from New York to London's National Theatre in 2003.

Kanye West Hopes Film is Influential

Kanye West and Kim KardashianKanye West thinks he has heralded the "next generation" of cinema.
The "Stronger" hitmaker premiered his film Cruel Summer at the Cannes Film Festival, in the South of France, yesterday and says the production - which has little dialogue, a musical score and seven screens depicting different images - was inspired by some of his teenage artwork.

"When I was 17 and at high school, I made a painting that had seven angles to it, to create a 360-degree picture and now I'm 34 I created something similar.
The way we work these days is like sensory overload. Normally when watching a movie we are on the phone or texting.
Normally we have so much going on at us, this film represents that, as there is so much going on all the time.
We constantly need more things to look at and the seven-screen experience represents the next generation.
I was very particular about having the screens separate, where your mind puts the screens back together, the way you put memories together.
I'm not the best director in the world, but I had an idea that I thought would be amazing to inspire people, like a dream of one day this being the way people watch movies."

Katy Perry’s Smelly Film Crew

Katy PerryKaty Perry has a smelly film crew following her around shooting her latest movie. The 27-year-old beauty is currently being filmed by an English production team for her part-biopic, part-concert movie - which will be released later this summer - but she doesn't understand why they don't wash their hair on a regular basis, but she believes it is down to their nationality.

"I've got friends who are English who are filming me for my movie. Anytime I go out wearing a sweater that looks any type of grandma-ish they steal it from me. There's one whose name is Ed. He's real skinny, he showers every day but washes his hair about every three weeks. That's what the English boys do, all those hip English boys they just don't wash their hair because they think they won't get that cool look. But I love the people of England, they're so lovely and courteous. The real people of England care, they mean well. Maybe they talk crap behind your back, but they're so sweet to your face."

Sean Penn’s Inspirational Director

Paolo Sorrentino and Sean Penn

Sean Penn takes "inspiration" from director Paolo Sorrentino. The Milk actor plays Irish ex-rockstar Cheyenne in Sorrentino's new drama This Must Be The Place and has been inspired by his directing style, which he finds particularly engaging:

"He had very clear ideas of the physicality in terms of the visual, the look of the character. It's an unusual kind of plan, to work with a director like this. So many of the things that he gives the actors that are in our domain to create, you will always have a challenge waiting for you. He provides so much of it, you might as well listen. I think, to me, it's very fair to say that he is one of the very few film masters going right now. Somebody who's going to make cinema for a long time, in a way that will inspire us. So as an actor, you are also an appreciator of him, and you try to take a lot of inspiration from him."

Christina Ricci Inspired By Youth

Christina Ricci on Marie ClaireChristina Ricci draws on "certain incidents" from her youth for her work.

The 32-year-old beauty - who does not talk to her father following his divorce from her mother - likes to use her "emotional memories" to get into character but also thinks about adult experiences to do the same thing.

"I have a good relationship with my mother and I just don't like to talk about my father. How I was raised and the memories of certain incidents in my childhood - I bring those emotional memories to things I need to use at work. Definitely. But I also use things that happened to me as an adult in the same way."

The Bel Ami star is not upset by her unconventional upbringing as she believes everyone has stories from their past. "I managed to be the black sheep of the family. I have an unconventional background but what's average these days? We're all interesting in our own ways," she added to Marie Claire.

Olivia Wilde Inspired By Kristen Wiig

Olivia Wilde in GQ magazineOlivia Wilde "worships" Kristen Wiig. The TRON: Legacy actress is a huge fan of the Bridesmaids actress because she proves it is possible to be sexy as well as funny.

Talking about her new role in comedy The Incredible Burt Wonderstone - which also stars Jim Carrey, Steve Carell and Steve Buscemi - Olivia said, "I auditioned for it, which I love. You feel more secure. I competed against some wonderful comedians - real comedians - and was this wild card. I know Steve Carell, who's producing the film, didn't expect anything from me. I don't see why sexuality and comedy have to be mutually exclusive. That's a tragic concept when it comes to women - you can be sexy and funny. I think Kristen Wiig is the perfect example; she's quirky and nerdy and, like, 'I'm a f***ing sexbomb but also the funniest person you've ever met.' And I worship her for that."

Olivia is also keen to shake off her sex symbol image and may not be so open with her sexuality in the future.

"I was very sexually mature at a very young age. I was very comfortable with it, and once someone hears a young woman speaking candidly about sexuality, it's like, 'Whoa!' You get labeled," the 27-year-old beauty told GQ magazine.
