“It was the first time I understood how you could get so wrapped up in a role that it could sort of take you down,” Natalie Portman explained in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “There were some nights that I thought I literally was going to die.”
Portman revealed this and more details of what it was like to film Black Swan, a unique thriller set in the mysterious world of the professional ballet.
The actress trained for the role, in which she plays professional ballet dancer Nina, for one year. She lost a great deal of weight, fell in love and delivered a performance that’s making many critics take notice. She is currently nominated for a Golden Globe for her work in the film.

Christopher Nolan Inspired by Classic Superman Film
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Classics, Remakes, Thrillers, Casting, Filmmaking, Rumors
Director Christopher Nolan is seeking inspiration from the 1978 Superman film.
Nolan, who is producing the upcoming Superman remake alongside his brother Jonah Nolan and David S. Goyer, revealed he aspires to achieve the same success as filmmaker Richard Donner did in the very first adaptation of the comic book story.
“I was hugely struck by the Donner films in the ‘70s when I was a kid. In 1978 I saw Superman and it had such an epic scope to it. It took on this incredible, iconic figure and gave that iconic figure an appropriate framing. It made quite an impression on me. It’s definitely one of my childhood touchstones on what epic cinema can be.”

UPDATE: You can see Corbett in the new SATC trailer here.
Turns out blogger Perez Hilton was right after all - former Sex and the City cast member John Corbett is a liar. But it’s okay, because Corbett was under orders not to reveal the truth. Lucky for spoiler-watchers, the actor is breaking his silence.
During a recent appearance on Lopez Tonight, John Corbett spilled the beans: he will have a role on Sex and the City 2. Those who remember Corbett from the series may know him better as Aidan Quinn, Carrie’s on-again off-again boyfriend/fiance from Seasons 2 and 3. “I was under orders not to say I was in that movie,” Corbett admitted to George Lopez.
Months ago, pictures of Corbett in Morocco surfaced. Rumors that he’s in the flick soon also surfaced - though they were categorically denied by the actor. But now, we can confirm: Aidan will be appearing in the movie. We can only speculate as to where the story will lead.

Comic Paper Bags Megan Fox in Interview
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: 20th Century Fox, Horror, Science Fiction, Comedy, Thrillers, Box Office, Celeb News, New Releases
Showing off her comedic side, Megan Fox playfully puts a paper bag over her head, as ordered by interviewer and comedian Matt Zaller when trying to promote Jennifer’s Body.
In the clip, Zaller ignores Fox as he interviews her co-star Johnny Simmons about everything else but the film, leading him to ask her to put the bag over her head because she’s just too distracting.
It’s just too bad that Fox’s funny bone (nor the rest of her appealing assets) wasn’t enough to push the film to the top of the box office—Jennifer’s Body came in fifth place, raking in $6.8 million.

Sandra Bullock Stalks Men
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: 20th Century Fox, Romance, Comedy, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases
Sandra Bullock says that stalking men is the best way to get a date.
The Hollywood star, whose character Mary Horowitz pursues her crush in new movie All About Steve, believes that you need to secretly follow potential suitors to find out what they like.
“How else do you get dates? I learned that you have to stalk and then make it look very innocent. Then once you get them you sort of shred receipts and you do things that sort of cover the paper trail of your stalking. I think it’s a necessary evil to sort of lure in your prey,” she jokes.
In All About Steve, Mary becomes obsessed with a man, played by Bradley Cooper, after going out on a blind date with him. Sandra also revealed she is terrible at crosswords, unlike her film character who constructs word games for a living, but loves seeing her name appear in puzzles.
“I can barely spell. I so admire people who just whiz through them. My name has been in several crosswords, so I guess that’s the only thing that really connects me. I always get the clue when I’m seven across or whatever. I get very excited, ‘I got that one. It’s me,’” she tells Parade Magazine.
Natalie Portman Fears The Smurfs
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrity Gossip
When The Smurfs hits theaters next year, there will be one person staying far away: Natalie Portman.
The 28-year-old actress recently admitted she has feared the miniature blue-skinned cartoon characters - first created by Belgian comics magazine Le Journal de Spirou in 1958 - since she saw the animated series as a child.
“I remember as a kid being really scared of The Smurfs. Because that bad guy, the wizard Gargamel, was so terrifying. I was scared of a lot of cartoons. I’m kind of wussy like that,” Portman said in Interview magazine.
Despite her fear of certain animated programs, Natalie does have some happier memories of her childhood. The Brothers star loves reminiscing about the toys she played with. “I was like a total cliched 80’s child. I had Barbies, obviously, as well as My Little Ponies and Cabbage Patch Kids, but I used to destroy them. I used to draw all over their faces and cut off their hair.”

Tarantino and Roth Say Inglourious Basterds Is a Date Movie
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Weinstein Company, Action, Horror, Period, Political, Filmmaking, New Releases, Videos

Inglourious Basterds writer-director Quentin Tarantino and his friend and star of the film, Eli Roth, share their thoughts on writing scripts, making the ultimate “Jews-kicking-Nazi-ass” film, why he hired Roth, and watching the premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
Best of all, Tarantino and Roth were both in agreement that Inglourious Basterds is definitely a date movie:
“If you’re a nerdy, little Jewish guy, and you’ve got that platonic, pretty-girl friend that’s not, like, giving it up, but is like your best friend and doesn’t mind you paying for her movies… Alright.. When you take her to see Inglourious Basterds, if you can’t get it done that night, then just.. she’s not your friend. Close the deal,” Tarantino exclaimed.
After you check out the full interview after the jump, make sure you see the film, which opens this Friday.

Keira Knightley Takes a Stand Against Photoshop
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Paramount, Adventure, Drama, Foreign, Period, Political, Romance, Box Office, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Distribution, Rumors, Upcoming Releases
Despite past alterations of her breasts for publicity, Pirates of the Caribbean beauty Keira Knightley has finally put her foot down about the issue for her upcoming film.
Back in 2004, promotional posters for her film King Arthur raised her eyebrows as they appeared as if she had received an enlargement procedure she did not recall. “Those things certainly weren’t mine,” she said in a 2006 interview, despite the fact that upon her approval, she had told marketing, “OK, fine. I honestly don’t give a s—-.”
This time around, Knightley isn’t as disinterested about her chest in The Duchess. Instead, she has told studio executives that she refuses to have her physique altered in any way for promotional purposes. Kudos to Keira for sticking up for those who aren’t as gifted as most celebrities nowadays!
What’s sad is the fact that she has to fight. Gotta love a society that has to enlarge a woman’s bosom in order to bump up ticket sales, eh?

Last week, FilmCrunch had the opportunity to interview Martin McDonagh and Colin Farrell, director and star of the upcoming film In Bruges.
Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson) are two hitmen sent to the Belgian city of Bruges after a botched job in London. They’ve been told by their boss, Harry (Ralph Fiennes), to do some sight-seeing, lie low and await further instruction. But the city, full of ancient architecture and historical landmarks, can’t satiate Ray and his need for distraction. The men venture out and soon discover that beneath the city’s quaint exterior lies a strange and disturbing underbelly, a surreal setting that causes them to begin to question life and death, right and wrong, and the purpose behind their little “vacation.”

Jack Nicholson: Movie Star and Bachelor Bad Boy
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Celebrity Gossip
He may eligible for Social Security, but A-lister Jack Nicholson is still an attractive single guy. And he still has an eye for the ladies.
A self-proclaimed “fool for love,” Nicholson said in AARP The Magazine that he’s changed his pick-up methods as he ages. He no longer tries to woo women in public, for example. And though he is now seventy years old, he’s still quite open to dating and the possibility of romance. Age is no obstacle for Nicholson - he’s willing to date younger women and even those closer to his own advanced years.
The issue featuring Jack Nicholson will be in stores January 24.
