Heather Morris: From Glee to Buffy?

“They’re considering me!”

Heather Morris, who plays Glee’s vapid cheerleader Brittany, could become the next Buffy. “I found out and almost peed my pants ‘cause I was so excited!”

Die-hard fans of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer film and TV franchise have cried foul on the planned remake, which will be made without Joss Whedon. The Buffy TV series creator was approached about the project early, but declined to work on other projects (like The Avengers).

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reboot Moving Forward

Buffy the Vampire Slayer series

A planned reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer has a new name attached to the project – and it still isn't Joss Whedon.

Warner Bros., the studio that had optioned the project from Fran and Kaz Kuzui, formally announced Monday that it will be moving forward with the production despite Joss Whedon’s previous declaration that he would not be involved.

"There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character's return to the big screen," producer Charles Roven explained. "Details of the film are being kept under wraps, but I can say while this is not your high-school Buffy, she'll be just as witty, tough, and sexy as we all remember her to be."

Cinema Scene: Joss Whedon Helms Avengers, Del Toro’s Haunted Mansion

Joss Whedon-Buffy the Vampire Slayer‘s Joss Whedon officially announced at Comic-Con that he will be directing The Avengers. The superhero film is scheduled for a May 4, 2012 release.

-According to Will Arnett and show creator Mitch Hurwitz, the Arrested Development movie is still going to happen. I guess I’ll believe it when I see it?

-Lionsgate finally blinked. Saw 3D, originally scheduled to debut on Oct. 22, has been pushed to Oct. 29 - one week after Paranormal Activity 2 premieres.

-A Hobbit-less Guillermo del Toro is focusing on his next project. He is now planning to produce, write and possibly direct a scary version of Disney’s The Haunted Mansion.

-Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis, has been chosen to open the 67th Venice Film Festival. The festival opens September 1.

Count Alyson Hannigan Out of Buffy Reboot

Alyson Hannigan as Willow

As much as everyone would like to forget about it, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer film is still expected on the big screen again.

Yes, I speak of the one Joss Whedon has opted to stay non-involved with. It would appear as if the writer-director (and creator of the much better television version of the same name) isn’t the only one not feeling the Fran Rubel Kuzui and Kaz Kuzui reboot—Alyson Hannigan, who played Buffy’s best friend Willow on the show, is also voicing her rather negative opinion of the project.

Joss Whedon Was Serious About Terminator Bid

Joss Whedon, self-proclaimed mastermindWhen I read Joss Whedon‘s open letter (seen in full after the jump) to the Terminator owners (putting down a $10,000 bid for the rights), I laughed so hard that I actually didn’t think that the Dollhouse creator penned it himself.

Up against moguls like Sony Pictures and Summit Entertainment (the folks behind the very profitable Twilight franchise), Whedon barely seems to stand a chance as he waves his meager $10,000 offer around—was he serious at all? Turns out that the geek extraordinaire hasn’t wanted money this badly “since they auctioned off frames from The Little Mermaid.”

When asked if he finds his bidding laughable, Whedon remarked, “What do you mean, funny?! You think $10,000 is funny?! Here’s the thing: It’s not a slam on The Terminator. I love The Terminator. That part’s totally true. So you know what, never hurts to ask.”

To much of his fans’ surprise, the writer-director claims that he doesn’t just like the series because his former co-worker Summer Glau was on the television series: “I loved the movies, even the later movies. I loved the mythology. I loved the TV show [The Sarah Connor Chronicles]–like, really loved. Not for pretend. And not just because of [star] Summer [Glau].”

Whedon Confirms Non-Involvement in Buffy Remake

Joss Whedon talks Buffy remakeWe can all stop holding our breaths: Joss Whedon will not be involved with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer remake. In other words, do not pay money to support this film when it comes out.

Okay, so perhaps that’s a little mean of me; it’s hard not to be such a protective fan of the Whedonverse.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly about Dollhouse, Joss confirmed what we were all dreading: “I believe [the producers] did ultimately reach out to my agent after the news broke. I think that’s something better left untouched by me. So, I wish them luck.”

I’m pretty sure that they’ll need lots of that, anyway.
