Tom Cruise on a Mission to Cast Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise and Katie HolmesTom Cruise wants Katie Holmes to play a villain in the next Mission: Impossible movie.

The actor - who stars as spy Ethan Hunt in the action franchise - is desperate to work with his wife and believes an evil part for her in the fourth film would be perfect because he doesn’t want them to play a couple on screen.

“Tom is very excited about taking Mission: Impossible in a new direction and he sees Katie as a big part of that,” a source said. “They have wanted to work together for a while now but the idea of being a couple on screen in a romantic comedy is a bit dull. This might give them a chance to have some fun both as a couple and as hero and villainess.”

Katie - who has a three-year-old daughter, Suri, with Tom - recently admitted she loves bringing her home life into her acting roles. “In my own life, my whole world really revolves around my family. I do what I need to do, but it’s like, ‘How is everybody else doing?’ And it’s wonderful for me as an actress to put some of that into a character,” Holmes said.

Christian Bale Based Psycho Character on Tom Cruise

Christian Bale as Patrick BatemanIt’s pretty bad when Hollywood royalty bashes you. To find out that one of the most infamous on screen serial killers was based on your persona has to hurt a little, too.

American Psycho director Mary Harron reveals that actor Christian Bale based the sinister Patrick Bateman on Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise.

“One day he [Bale] called me and he had been watching Tom Cruise on David Letterman, and he just had this very intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes, and he was really taken with this energy.”

While I have not personally looked into Cruise’s eyes, I now look at images of the actor and get a bit creeped out because of that knowledge. At the same time, I feel that Cruise’s wife, Katie Holmes, holds more of this so-called emptiness behind her eyes—she’s the one leeching off the superstar’s wealth and career, after all. Just an observation!

Lindsay Lohan Replaces Katie Holmes

Lindsay LohanNo, Linds isn’t hooking up with Tom Cruise…but she is stepping into the movie role recently vacated by his wife. Lohan will take on the female lead in The Other Side, a role which received heavy input from , who was all set to take on the project.

David Michaels, who will direct the film, said he and Holmes shared many ideas and discussions while Cruise worked on Valkyrie. Funding for the flick fell off for a while, however, and finally Holmes had to bow out of the project. She went on to Broadway and All My Sons.

This left the door open for , whom I guess got the role because of her very wide availability (it’s been a while since Linds had any film work). She’ll join a cast that includes Jason Lee, Alanis Morissette, Dave Matthews, Woody Harrelson and Giovanni Ribisi.

Box Office Breakdown: Rambo Outgunned by Spartans

Rambo

Although was hoping to end the series on an up note, it appears the actor/writer/director will just have to settle for second place.  Many had expected the fourth installment would come away with the weekend’s spoils, unfortunately the aging action hero was overpowered by a group of toga-clad warriors.

It should be said though that had an extremely narrow victory.  The spoof of 2007’s edged out the action flick by just $300,000.  But a win is still a win, right?  The satire also had the best per screen average of any movie in the Top Ten ($7104).

Box Office Breakdown: Cloverfield Attacks the Charts

Cloverfield

Final numbers for the three-day weekend revealed what many had suspected: toppled New York and the competition.  The strong numbers were a result of smart marketing.  In addition to the eerie trailers, the film debuted in January - usually a fairly quiet month for decent films.  Cloverfield’s $46 million take has already covered the movie’s budget (estimated at around $25 million).  That dollar amount also earned the flick the title for best MLK and January opener ever.

Although raked in $20 million less than the horror flick, had nothing to cry about.  Thanks to more strategic marketing - this time by - the film was able to take advantage of those looking for something less dark.  Dresses was originally scheduled to debut last week but was repositioned so it could open during the busy weekend.

Unfortunately, female focus on the romantic comedy didn’t help the female-filled .  The movie - co-starring , and - cashed out in 8th place.  This makes two disappointing debuts in a row for the Clan (the first being Tom’s ).  Let us not forget that Katie opted to do this film instead of the for her post-Tom movie return.  Come to think of it, maybe it was for the best.  I could just hear Tom telling us now that if he had known Heath was doing drugs, he would have cured Ledger himself.

Here are some possible suggestions for your upcoming weekend:

Suri Cruise: Prepped for Stardom

Suri CruiseShe was famous before she was ever born, but that’s just the beginning of the story when it comes to , the daughter of and . Mom Katie took the tyke to see Knut (you remember, that fluffy little polar bear) at the Berlin Zoo, which of course prompted photos. Knut dominated the media and even became a celebrated children’s book…so where will this polar bear obsession lead next? Where else but Hollywood and the film industry, which is reportedly already interested in turning little Knut’s life into the next big flick. Suri Cruise is also being considered to voice the role of the bear, a pretty mean feat considering the two-year-old child probably isn’t even fully potty-trained.
