Angelina Jolie to Adopt Seventh Child

I suppose that foreign children are nice holiday presents for the Pitt-Jolies—Salt starlet Angelina Jolie is reportedly set to adopt a baby from Syria.
The Oscar-winning actress, who already has three adopted children, as well as three biological ones, with partner Brad Pitt, has started the process to bring home a baby girl from the Asian country.
Brad, however, is said to not be keen on the idea, but an undeterred Angelina began the proceedings on her own. A source said, “He has made it clear that six children are more than he can handle. The idea of one more seemed ludicrous, but Angie is determined to complete her rainbow family.”
A spokesman for the Immigration and Naturalization Service in Washington D.C. confirmed that “only Angelina’s name was on the adoption papers.” Angelina adopted her eldest son Maddox - now eight - from Cambodia in 2001, while she was still married to second husband Billy Bob Thornton, but was legally his only parent.
After splitting from Billy, she went on to adopt Zahara from Ethiopia in 2005 and soon after getting together with Brad, he legally became the father of both children. The couple then had their first biological child, Shiloh, in May 2006 before adopting Pax - now five - from Vietnam in March 2007. They then became the proud parents of twins, Knox and Vivienne, who were born in July 2008.

Catherine Zeta-Jones Quit Hollywood For Kids

Ever wonder what happened to Catherine Zeta-Jones? Word is that the actress quit living in Hollywood for the sake of her children.
The Welsh starlet, who lives in Bermuda and New York with her actor husband Michael Douglas and their children, nine-year-old son Dylan and six-year-old-daughter Carys, was so frustrated with the constant paparazzi presence that she gave up her glamorous Los Angeles lifestyle to focus on her family life.
“When you live in Los Angeles you can’t go anywhere without being critiqued—on your purse of the fact that you have gained weight or that you have got spots on your face. That’s not the life I want. Deciding to live in beautiful Bermuda was the healthiest thing Michael and I ever did. Now that I have kids, that’s what my life is about.”
Catherine is also not concerned about turning 40 this Thursday—the same day her husband turns 65—because she doesn’t feel old: “I feel much younger than I am. When you are 10 or 20, 40 looks really old. When I was nearing 30 that seemed like a major milestone.”
Box Office Breakdown: Women Rule with Baby Mama

Although 30 Rock still struggles to compete on Thursdays, Tina Fey’s Baby Mama had no problem topping the competition. The film, co-starring Amy Poehler, earned $17.4 million and made a showing for women everywhere. When’s the last time a movie with two female leads debuted at #1?
Interestingly enough, Mama‘s screen average ($6845) was outdone by another female-centric movie: The She Found Me. The movie that was directed and written by star Helen Hunt earned $8066 per screen this weekend. Fairly impressive considering Found, also featuring Bette Midler, opened in 44th place.
Friday’s other big entry - Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay - came in second place with a $14.9 million take. Surprisingly, that gross nearly equals what the original film raked in during it’s total run.

Box Office Breakdown: Forbidden Kingdom Kicks Past Forgetting Sarah

Favorable reviews and Judd Apatow’s association helped Forgetting Sarah Marshall nab a second place finish this past weekend. While some may have expected the adult comedy to debut at #1, the movie was unfortunately inaccessible to large segment of ticket buyers.
Meanwhile, Marshall‘s R-rated raunch allowed fellow new entry The Forbidden Kingdom to edge right past it. The action film, which brought martial artists Jackie Chan and Jet Li together for the first time, earned $21.4 million—just enough for the win.

Despite George Clooney‘s role as actor and director, Hollywood’s powerful A-lister still couldn’t get his film all the way to the end zone.
Leatherheads, also starring John Krasinski and Renee Zellweger, came up short this past weekend found itself in third place. Although it looked like the football film was going to fare much better, Nim’s Island made a last minute score to snag second place. Previous winner, 21, made it two weeks in a row even with a $10 million loss.
The only other new film to enter the recent Top Ten was The Ruins. The film adaptation of the Scott Smith book scared up just over $8 million.

Box Office Breakdown: 21 Cashes In

Apparently it takes a movie about gambling to finally bring down a family-friendly film.
This past weekend, 21 won big at the tables and brought in over $24 million dollars. The movie - the third Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey have starred in together - survived less than stellar critical reviews to cash in over $9000 per theater. (That average was tops for any move in the Top Ten.) The new box office champ also pushed Horton and its $17.7 million into second place.
Further down the list, Stop-Loss once again proved that audiences are not interested in purchasing tickets for pics about the war. Is it because these films are far too political, or do people simply need a more light-hearted theme to escape with? Whatever the reason, Loss entered the charts in a disappointing 8th place. The Ryan Phillippe vehicle did earn a respectable $3500 screen average though.

Box Office Breakdown: Tyler Perry Produces Another Hit

This past Easter weekend, Tyler Perry proved once again that he has the Midas touch. Although his latest venture, Meet the Browns, only came in second, the film bested Horton Hears a Who! with its per screen take. Perry’s film averaged $10,011 per theater—thousands better than Horton‘s performance ($6208). The latter movie was also showing in twice as many locations.
But the Dr. Seuss adaptation wasn’t the only film to snare a prize away from the writer/actor/director. Under the Same Moon - a small feature from The Weinstein Company - entered the Top Ten with an impressive $10,414 average. While Browns was being shown on 2006 screens, Moon was showing on only 266. The movie, co-starring America Ferrera, wound up being the top domestic scorer ever for a Spanish-languaged film.
In other chart news, Owen Wilson’s Drillbit Taylor debuted at #4 while another Asian horror remake, Shutter, took in $10.5 million for a third place finish. Films booted out of this week’s Top Ten were Semi-Pro, Doomsday, The Other Boleyn Girl and The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Box Office Breakdown: Horton Hears a Who Has Largest 2008 Debut

Thankfully, Jim Carrey‘s embarrassing stint on American Idol wasn’t all in vain.
Horton Hears a Who earned $45 million dollars over the past weekend, trouncing the competition. Although the kid-friendly flick has had the biggest opening of 2008 so far, the film falls in the middle of the pack when it comes to Dr. Seuss adaptations. How The Grinch Stole Christmas opened with $55 million back in 2000; A Cat in the Hat took in $38.3 just three years later.
Horton‘s premiere also made a nice statement for non-Pixar related films overall. This animated movie found itself in fifth place behind other cartoon debuts. (Disney’s Finding Nemo, Monsters, Inc., Cars and Ratatouille rank one through four.)
The only other new entries in this week’s Top Ten were the mixed-martial arts pic Never Back Down and the post-apocalyptic thriller Doomsday.

More Ticket Troubles with Hannah Montana

The concert everyone wanted to see will soon become the movie fans will be forced to miss. Miley Cyrus, star of Hannah Montana and big-selling concert songstress, will soon be on the big screen. The Montana movie comes out February 1, but it’s only scheduled to run for a single week. Tickets have been on sale since December 1, and already fans are treating them like pieces of the true cross. Tickets are selling (and selling out) online and at box offices.
The movie, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour, will feature clips of Miley’s nationwide tour that caused a summer sensation. Meanwhile, Disney has offered no information as to whether the movie will also be released on DVD.
Independent films and other genre films are often released for only one week, and some say such a short release time helps the market from becoming oversaturated. Hannah Montana? Oversaturated? That ship has sailed.
