Mel Gibson Ordered to Participate in Q&A

Mel Gibson

In response to a lawsuit filed by writer Benedict Fitzgerald, a judge has ordered movie mogul Mel Gibson to answer specific questions about expenses for his hit saga .

Fitzgerald claims Gibson underpaid him for his work. The claim is that writer payments were lowered for Gibson-related expenses, a contractual violation. The screenwriter’s lawyer says Gibson spent large sums for personal reasons while filming in Italy, including $78,000 on a chiropractor bill.

Gibson has been ordered to appear for a deposition by mid-January to answer questions regarding the film. So far, his lawyer is unavailable for comment.

The Case of Batman vs. Batman

The Dark Knight

Oh, the comedians are going to have a field day with this. In a just-strange-enough-to-work, headline-grabbing lawsuit, Batman will face off against the minds behind . But will the case ever see the inside of a courtroom?

Batman isn’t just a comic book character who first appeared on the scene in 1939 (then called the Bat-man), it’s also an oil-producing town in Turkey. Batman has been refining the fuel since 1955 and boasts Turkey’s oldest refinery. But now, the issue of name infringement has been raised.

Huseyin Kalkan, mayor of Batman, has legally filed suit against Christopher Nolan (who directed The Dark Knight) and Warner Bros. in hopes of gaining a cut of royalties from the film (sure, aren’t there enough to go around?).

Tommy Lee Jones Sues Paramount For $10 Million

Tommy Lee Jones goes after Paramount

While Fox and Warner Bros. are dealing with their battles, Paramount now has to deal with one of their own, thanks to a $10 million dollar lawsuit compliments of Tommy Lee Jones.

The veteran actor is seeking payment that he claims is rightfully owed to him for the services he provided for the 2007 Coen Brothers’ hit, No Country For Old Men.

Although both Paramount and Jones declined to comment, the actor’s publicist simply pointed to the lawsuit, which notes a contract N.M. Classics (a subsidiary of Paramount’s) that promises Jones “significant box-office bonuses and ‘back-end’ compensation.”

Court Date Set for Watchmen Lawsuit

Court sets date for Watchmen trialWhile most Watchmen fans only had the film’s release countdown to consider, a new development in the Watchmen copyright lawsuit has added a new date to watch out for: January 6.

U.S. District Court Judge Gary Allen Feess assigned the date for the case, which is set to decide whether or not Fox does hold the rights to the Watchmen movie. Between the January 6 court date and the film’s scheduled March 6 release, let’s hope that things go in the fans’ favor and they settle this between that time.

If the case goes according to Fox, fans of the highly-anticipated Zack Snyder film will never see that March 6 release happen, which could very well happen come January.

The dispute goes back to 1991, when Fox “quitclaimed” its right to Alan Moore‘s acclaimed graphic novel to Largo Entertainment, with an agreement that the production company was to release the movie under the big studio (if not, Largo Entertainment was to buy the rights through an agreed buyout formula from Fox).

Paris Hilton Sued for Lack of Promotion

Pledge This DVDFunny. I never thought the phrases “Paris Hilton” and “lack of publicity” could ever be used in the same sentence.

A lawsuit filed Tuesday in Miami’s District Court claims failed to live up to her contractual obligations. The heiress, who received an acting and an executive producer credit for National Lampoon’s Pledge This!, reportedly dropped the ball when it came to the film’s marketing.

According to Worldwide Entertainment Group Inc., the company is owed $75,000 because Hilton did not provide “reasonable promotion and publicity” for the 2006 sorority movie.

Now, given that Paris Hilton’s most recent film (The Hottie & the Nottie) failed despite her talk show appearances - what kind of numbers were the Pledge This! producers expecting to get?

UPDATE:  Nicolas Cage vs. Kathleen Turner

Kathleen Turner, Nicolas CageA while ago we told about you Nicolas Cage’s beef with his former Peggy Sue Got Married co-star.  In a new autobiography, actress Kathleen Turner claimed Cage was a bit of troublemaker around the time the two worked together.

“He caused so many problems. He was arrested twice for drunk-driving and, I think, once for stealing a dog. He’d come across a chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket.”

Well Cage was so irked by the accusations he had a defamation and libel suit filed in London’s High Court.  The actress’ UK publishers and Britain’s Daily Mail (a newspaper that printed an excerpt from the book) were also named in the complaint.

Kathleen Turner Talks About Nic Cage Lawsuit

Put Description HereAlthough they survived a tumultuous relationship in Peggy Sue Got Married, and may now be heading to court.  The Ghost Rider star has just filed a defamation and libel case in London’s High Court based on statements his former co-star has made.

In Turner’s new autobiography, Send Yourself Roses: Thoughts on My Life, Love, and Leading Roles, the actress alleges Cage had problems with theft and drinking during the production of their 1986 movie.  In the book, she states:

“He caused so many problems. He was arrested twice for drunk-driving and, I think, once for stealing a dog. He’d come across a chihuahua he liked and stuck it in his jacket.”

Well Cage, 44, was not too pleased by those remarks (as proven by the suit) and has gone on the record denying her claims.  (I would think a quick background check would quickly settle this matter.  In fact, didn’t her book have a fact checker?)

The Unauthorized Tom Cruise Biography

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors

Tom Cruise: Unauthorized BiographyWhen you put yourself in the public eye in a very bold way, you have to expect at least a little backlash. Could that be what’s happening to couch-jumping and overzealous right this moment? Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography (which you can buy right now for less than twenty bucks online) talks at great length about Cruise and his various women, rumors concerning this love life and of course, . The media has already reported that Morton may be getting sued by Cruise and the Scientology Church for the mind-boggling sum of $100 million. Doesn’t matter. The book hit the shelves January 15, no matter what Cruise or anyone else has to say about it.

Before the book’s release, an excerpt of the prose was released which detailed the inner circle of Scientology followers, showing just how important Cruise’s role is therein. Followers of the religion, which is based on a series of books by author , have taken a lot of flak from the press (and the spoofers). But in this country, we’re all allowed to believe whatever we please - even our biggest stars. Read all about it in the unauthorized (and possibly very costly) Tom Cruise biography.

‘Borat’ Slapped With Another Lawsuit

Borat drivingWhen it comes to filing lawsuits, better late than never – right?

Even though the film was released over a year ago, the creators behind are still hearing from disgruntled parties.  This time around, it’s the driver’s ed instructor who is seeking to regain his 15 minutes of fame.

Michael Psenicska follows the lead of several other participants who didn’t like what they had to see in the final print.  Ironically, the instructor – who calmly did his best to keep Borat’s comments and driving in line – is now making himself look bad with this poorly timed claim.  (Other suits have been filed by the obnoxious frat boys, the etiquette teacher and villagers from Romania.)

Although he signed a waiver and received $500 for his appearance, Pscenicska claims he was misled about the purpose of the filming.  He asserts he only intended to be involved in a ‘documentary about the integration of foreign people into the American way of life.’  Now he is asking actor and (amongst others) for compensatory and punitive damages.

I wonder if a cut of the DVD profits would help cure his ‘emotional suffering’...

FilmCrunch 030: The Most Passionate Borat Review Ever

Neil Estep goes off on the people trying to sue to the makers of Borat. He gives you an overview of what the Borat film is all about, and why it’s really a genious piece of work, being that it is unique with real-life people. Watch out Borat haters…if Neil sees you on the street, he will yell at you, and then run quickly when you reciprocate. If you are unfamiliar with Borat:

Journalist Borat Sagdiyev leaves his native Kazakhstan to travel to America to make a documentary. As he zigzags across the nation, Borat meets real people in real situations with hysterical consequences. His backwards behavior generates strong reactions around him, exposing prejudices and hypocrisies in American culture. In some cases, Borat’s interview subjects embrace his outrageous views on race and sex by agreeing with him, while others attempt to offer a patriotic lesson in Western values.
