Madonna’s Lonely Script

Madonna at the Golden Globe AwardsMadonna wrote a film because she was lonely. The 53-year-old star's fascination with Wallis Simpson - the subject of her new movie W.E. - stemmed from her interest in English history, which she began to research when she first moved to London with former husband Guy Ritchie.

"When I moved to England after I got married, I really didn't have any friends. I didn't know anybody. I found myself in a strange world and I decided that I was going to find out about the history and culture. So I started studying English history and reading about the monarchy. When I got to Edward VIII, I was transfixed by the idea that a man would give up such a powerful position for love. I started reading books about Wallis Simpson, and I found a lot of them to be really negative and one-dimensional. When women have some kind of power, and we don't understand them, we diminish them."

Madonna related to Wallis a lot and thinks that made her the right person to direct the film: "I think I had an insight into her character that possibly other directors wouldn't have, because I know what it's like to be reduced to a sound bite."

Madonna Asked Guy For Camera Advice

Madonna on the set of W.E.Madonna asked ex-husband Guy Ritchie for "technical advice about cameras" while shooting W.E..

The singer-turned-director was married to filmmaker Guy Ritchie for just short of eight years, and she admits she was keen to talk to him and pick his brain to make sure her directorial debut was as good as it possibly could be: "I gave the screenplay to Guy and shared the concepts and the stories and the ideas with him because he was interested in it from a historical point of view. Guy would give me technical advice about cameras or using digital versus film or one cinematographer being better than another - just technical things."

Despite the film not yet being released, Madonna - who is currently dating a dancer more than half her age - claims she has already begun considering ideas for future movies. "I'm thinking about possible subjects, but I am a hopeless romantic, so I'm sure that romance and love will be a part of the story."

Vera Farmiga Excited for Madonna movie

Vera Farmiga is looking forward to possibly working with Madonna, even though she’s never seen any of her film work.

The Up in the Air actress said she was delighted Madonna asked her to star in W.E., a project the singer is producing, co-writing and directing. The film tells the story of the relationship between Britain’s King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, the Duchess of Windsor.

“She approached me. We sat for a cup of tea and again for a cup of tea. Hopefully, it will all come together. I’m actually not familiar with her work, and I told her this flat-out. She sent a couple of films and I still haven’t seen them,” Farmiga said. “But no matter. I don’t really go by that. I go by other things. I go by scripts. I go with what I think I can do with a character and if I feel a kinetic energy with someone and I feel we can uplift and challenge each other.”

Vera, 36, isn’t bothered that ‘s only other directorial project, 2008’s Filth and Wisdom, was panned by critics because she understands that everyone has early work which won’t necessarily be a success.

“I certainly have things I wouldn’t want people to see,” she admitted to E! Online.

Guy Ritchie Doesn’t Regret His Madonna Film

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrity Gossip, Filmmaking,

Madonna in Swept Away

British director - whose 2002 movie with ex-wife Madonna flopped at the cinema and went straight to DVD in the UK - said he wasn’t upset by the critics. Ritchie believes you have to do some things wrong in order to know what works.

Swept Away was always going to have a limited audience. The idea was that it was going to be a small film… but you can’t do small films with the ex,” the 41-year-old said.

The romantic comedy was a disaster at the box office, just like his 2005 film which starred Jason Stratham. But Guy said he doesn’t take too much criticism on board—in fact, Revolver is still his favorite movie.

Guy Ritchie Focused on Films

Guy Ritchie wants to focus on his careerNow that he’s single, Guy Ritchie wants to be a “prolific mother-f***er.”

The Sherlock Holmes director, whose almost eight-year marriage to Madonna ended last year, is planning to focus on his career and make a host of new films while he hasn’t got a special woman in his life.

“I’ve been in this game a long time now—middle class and middle-aged. Although I suspect I’m moving into a very different period now, I sense a shift. I’m a victim of circumstance and age. It’s life, isn’t it? Let’s be frank, I’ve got a lot more time on my hands now, and because of that I’ve become a lot more career-motivated. I intend to be a very prolific mother-f***er over the next three years.”

Despite making a name for himself with London heist film Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels in 1998 and gangster movie Snatch in 2000, Guy claims he has little recollection of the violent films: “I forget I’ve done them. So if ever they’re on, I’m unaware I had anything to do with them. If I were to watch Snatch or Lock Stock… I couldn’t tell you what scene was coming next. It’s embarrassing to say this, but I’d probably really enjoy watching them.”

Madonna Wants Blanchett for Musical

Madonna wants Cate Blanchett to star in her musicalMadonna wants Cate Blanchett to star in her new musical—when the Queen of Pop wants you, is there even a chance of declining?

The “4 Minutes” singer is set to direct and produce Wallis, which follows the life of American socialite Wallis Simpson, who Britain’s King Edward VIII gave up the throne to marry, and wants the Notes On A Scandal actress to take on the lead role opposite Doctor Who actor David Tennant after opting against casting Keira Knightley.

A source told Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “The final script is now written and the locations have been scouted. Madonna is now trying to assemble the cast and put the finances in place. The first scene of the film is an old woman in her 90s living on her own in a Parisian flat. She starts to tell her life story to her housekeeper. It turns out the old woman is Wallis Simpson. There will be a song for each decade of her life.”

Madonna, whose last acting role in a movie was in 2002 flop Swept Away, had been planning to start work on the film last year, but it was put on hold while she finalized her divorce from Guy Ritchie.
