Tina Fey Plots ‘Mean Girls’ Musical

Tina Fey in 'Mean Girls'Tina Fey is developing a Mean Girls musical. The 30 Rock comedienne - who wrote and was featured in the 2004 film starring Lindsay Lohan - is looking to bring the hit teen comedy to the stage with the help of her husband Jeff Richmond.

Quizzed about a possible Mean Girls musical on the red carpet at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in Los Angeles last night, she told E! News, "Maybe! We want to. I would love to. I'm trying to develop it with my husband, who does all the music for 30 Rock and I think Paramount's onboard."

While the musical is very much in the early stages, the 42-year-old star feels "Triumphant" singer Mariah Carey would make a great candidate for the role of villain Regina George's ditzy, "cool" mother in the stage show. Tina, who "loved" the American Idol feud between Carey and Nicki Minaj, said, "I think Mariah won. Like, Mariah seemed to really know all the characters. Maybe she can play Amy Poehler's part in the musical."

Mariah Carey and Nick CannonNick Cannon would like to work on the big screen with .

The rapper/presenter says he would like to see his spouse get a chance to show off her humorous side. “I’d love to do a film with Mariah. But it would have to be a comedy. She’s the funniest woman in the world, she just cracks me up all the time,” Cannon claimed.

Mariah, who most recently starred as a dowdy social worker in , said she believes the dramatic role has made her a better person.

“It was definitely a commitment to be seen looking that bad. I love Lee Daniels, the director, but he’s a sick man. He wanted to torture me,” she said. “But you know, it freed me in a lot of ways. I don’t worry about certain things in the same way any more.”

VIDEO: Mariah Carey’s Drunken Acceptance Speech

When an Oscar-winning screenwriter says “ just gave the most awesome acceptance speech of all time,” it’s bound to get people interested.

So when Diablo Cody (Juno) tweeted that message last night, a million different scenarios ran through my head. Did Mariah accept the award on behalf of “all the Precious girls out there”? Did she say “I never thought a girl who starred in Glitter would ever earn anything but a Razzie”?

Fortunately, my guesses were nothing close to what really happened at the 2010 Palm Springs International Film Festival. While accepting the award for Breakthrough Actress, the Precious actress made us all think back to that wild interview with Carson Daly a long time ago. But in this case, I think she was simply having a very good time.

Mariah Carey to Receive Award for Precious Performance

Mariah Carey in Precious

Seeming to have finally gotten past the incident known as Glitter, Mariah Carey will receive the Breakthrough Performance Award at the 21st Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival.

The singer-and-actress will receive the coveted honor at the Californian event in January in recognition for her portrayal of a dowdy social worker in Precious. Festival chairman Harold Matzner said:

“We’re delighted to be able to present the Breakthrough Performance Award to the extraordinary, very beautiful and versatile Mariah Carey, who, in a critically acclaimed role, completely transformed herself from a glamorous music icon to a forthright social worker for the role of Ms. Weiss in Precious.”

Previous winners of the prize include Jennifer Hudson, Marion Cotillard and Freida Pinto, who all went on to win an Oscar for their performances.

Mariah Carey’s New Film Released this Fall

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories:

Mariah CareyWhen it comes to winter, most moviegoers have come to expect a slate of Oscar contenders filling their theaters. But those indifferent about the awards season can always find a few counterprogramming choices. For example, audiences this December can choose to watch Marley & Me, Punisher: War Zone...or they can watch the latest attempt from .

Tennessee, a movie about two brothers embarking on a journey to find their real father, had its debut back in April at the Tribeca Film Festival. Now the film will officially premiere in late 2008, approximately seven years after Carey’s disastrous turn in Glitter.

In the film, Mariah stars as a waitress trying to escape a bad marriage. The aspiring country singer joins the men on their road trip when they travel through her town. This role was a part Janet Jackson had originally intended to play. In fact, the Jackson specifically gained 60 lbs. for the character. (She said the producers wanted to see her “in a different light.”) But scheduling conflicts eventually forced Janet to drop out of the movie. (Weight gain was apparently not a requirement for Carey’s participation.)

Those interested in previewing Tennessee can find a few a few clips after the jump.
