Kate Winslet Comes Out of Hiding

Kate Winslet - who picked up an Academy Award and two Golden Globes in 2009 - decided to take some time out so people wouldn’t get tired of her.

“I was in hiding a little bit, just doing family stuff and very little work,” she admitted to the Daily Mail. “To be honest, I felt so overexposed this time last year with the Golden Globes and the Oscar. It was fantastic and everything, but I was sick of me, let alone what other people must have felt.”

However, Kate is ready to get back to work is currently making her presentation rounds during the current awards season. She is also shooting an HBO mini-series based on the James M. Cain novel Mildred Pierce.

“We’re doing it from the book, not the film version with ,” Winslet revealed. “It’s such a deliciously meaty role and we cover a lot of ground, with Mildred raising her two girls during the Depression era. She runs her own business and, of course, there are men. And because it’s a mini-series for HBO we can really explore the characters and go into the kind of things you could only hint at when the film was made in 1945.”

Big mistake. Rumor has it that Mildred Pierce, the 1945 joint that won Joan Crawford an Oscar, is going to be remade as a TV miniseries. Further rumor has it said series will air on HBO. And who’s starring in the title role? .

Don’t get me wrong. I mean, she’s a fine actress. But ? Even Faye Dunaway later regretted trying to take on this silver screen icon.

Mel Gibson Plans Acting Return

Mel GibsonAfter spending some time under the radar, is apparently ready to make a return to acting.

Although Gibson has definitely been busy over the last several years, his primary focus has been on directorial work (, The Passion of the Christ).  It’s actually been some time since Mel has placed himself in front of the camera.  His last major motion pictures hit theaters back in 2002 (Signs, We Were Soldiers).

I’m sure the calculated time off also had something to do with the actor’s brush with the law.  If he could manage to keep out of the limelight, people would eventually forget those anti-Semitic remarks.  Right?
