The Orphanage: One of the most haunting movies I’ve seen in the past few years is being given an English-language redo. The Orphanage, the 2007 Spanish film from director Juan Antonio Bayona, will now be in the hands of Larry Fessenden. Guillermo del Toro, the producer on the original project, will serve the same role on this version. Guillermo also assisted Larry with the new script.

An American Werewolf in London: While fans are reminiscing over Michael Jackson’s Thriller video, it seems just appropriate that a remake of John Landis’ horror film is in the works. (Werewolf was the inspiration for the music video.) In the 1981 original, two college students (David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) are attacked by the creature while backpacking. The survivor eventually goes on to attack other victims. Dimension Films has tapped Sean and Bryan Furst (Daybreakers) to produce.

The Illusionist DVD Review
Posted by Johnny Mercedes Categories: Yari Film Group Releasing, Drama, Romance, New Releases, DVD Reviews

The Illusionist takes place in early 20th–century Vienna, where young Eisenheim (Edward Norton), a poor but brilliant magician, falls for a wealthy duchess (Jessica Biel). Fearing societal ridicule, her family forbids the relationship and the lovers become separated for many years. When the duchess is engaged to Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell), Eisenhiem must use his unique skill to regain her heart, distract the nosy Chief Inspector Uhl (Paul Giamatti), and escape the vengeful wrath of the crown prince. The Illusionist is a focused and introspective story that, unlike its ‘prestigious’ rival, uses mystical effect to flesh out, not upstage, a powerful tale of love.
The Illusionist is directed by Neil Burger and based on a short story by Steven Millhauser. Rated PG-13.
