Jason Bateman Says Juno Not to Blame for Teen Pregnancies

It was inevitable. Once word got out about the 17 pregnant teens at Gloucester High School, we knew the blame would start flying. We also knew the entertainment industry would eventually be named one of the responsible parties.

Somewhere out there, there are people who seriously believe that Jamie Lynn Spears has glamorized teenage pregnancies. These same people are probably not taking these two very important factors into consideration:

1. I’m sure Jamie-Lynn didn’t want to be a 17-year-old mother.
2. The Zoey 101 star can probably afford to raise a child, unlike a lot of teenage mothers out there. Therefore, giving her baby up for adoption might not have been a necessary option.

Jessica Alba Not Aiming to Be Taken Seriously

In a recent interview with Allure magazine, Jessica Alba told us why we’ll never ever take her seriously.  The pregnant actress apparently doesn’t care whether we like her work; she’s just interested in our theater dollars.

When asked why she doesn’t delve much into smaller independent fare, the 27-year-old responded:  “To me, box office is the most important thing. If the movie makes money, then I’m fine.” 

She then went on to explain her affinity for money.  “I grew up not having a lot. I’m really happy to be making money, not depending on a man, and not having to suffer to survive in this business. Struggling is not fun. Been there, done that.”

Baby News for Matthew McConaughey

Matthew McConaughey - probably best known for partying with Lance Armstrong and living out of an Airstream trailer - has just revealed that he will soon be seen with a new babe in his arms.  On his personal website, the actor announced that he and his girlfriend are expecting their first child.

Prior to his relationship with model Camila Alves, 24, People’s Most Eligible Bachelor had been linked to former co-stars Sandra Bullock and Penelope Cruz.  Although this “gift from God” does not necessarily mean marriage will soon follow, the couple have already been together for over a year now.  So who knows?  If Scott Baio can finally get married and have a baby, there’s hope for everyone.

McConaughey can next be seen on February 8th in Fool’s Gold.

Nicole Kidman Pregnant

After initially denying the rumors, Nicole Kidman’s rep has now confirmed the actress is pregnant.  This news comes after the New York Post reported she had dropped out of an upcoming film (presumably for the health of the baby).

Kidman revealed in Vanity Fair interview last year that a miscarriage during her marriage to Tom Cruise led them to adopt their first child, Bella, now 14.  They later added Connor, now 12, to their family.

This will be first child for both the Oscar-winning actress and her husband, singer Keith Urban.  The two have been married since last June.

Jessica Alba Pregnant

I’m hoping this means we won’t be seeing her in any gratuitous bikini shots anytime soon…

People Magazine has learned that Jessica Alba, 26, and boyfriend, Cash Warren, are expecting their first baby together sometime next year.  Although Alba, supposedly broke up with Warren, 28, at the end of July, they got back together a short time later.  Since they are reportedly due “late spring, early summer”, I’m guessing they had a happy reunion?

Jessica and Cash have been dating since late 2004.  They met when he was working on the set of The Fantastic Four.

Toni Collette is Pregnant

Excuse me?  How did we miss this?  Since when is a celebrity able to announce her own pregnancy?

We’re not saying this is a bad thing, and I’m sure Toni Collette is grateful not to have been photographed from three dozen angles with newspaper headlines speculating “Son or Sandwich?”  But still, where was Toni’s bump watch?  The incredibly talented star of films like Little Miss Sunshine and In Her Shoes may be unconventional, but surely a few magazines in this pregnancy-crazed post 9/11 universe should’ve been all over that story.

In any sense, on September 7th Toni announced at a performance of her band, Toni Colette and the Finish, that she was expecting.  Congratulations to Toni on what shall surely be a very talented child.

Box Office Breakdown:  Yuma Ropes Up The Win

Audiences went old-school this weekend helping 3:10 to Yuma corral the box office crown.  The well-received film, starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe, marked the second week in a row a classic movie remake landed at #1.  (Previous winner, Halloween slid down a notch this week).

Question now is:  Will the success of Yuma spur an onslaught of Westerns?  Given the lack of any real competition this weekend, it still may be too soon to say.  But any speculation will probably be confirmed when Brad Pitt‘s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford opens on September 21.

A trend that probably won’t be coming back anytime soon?  Brothers-desperately-trying-to-make-a-baby-to-make-their-father-happy-before-he-dies films.  The Brothers Solomon delivered a pathetic $525,000 in its debut weekend.  Granted, it didn’t show in many theaters (only 700)—but I’m guessing there was a reason for that.

Halle Berry Expecting First Child

After months of endless speculation, Halle Berry has exclusively confirmed to Access Hollywood that she is now indeed pregnant.  The child, who will surely rival Shiloh Jolie-Pitt for the most beautiful baby title, will be the first for the actress and her model boyfriend, Gabriel Aubry.  The couple has been together for two years.

It’s reported that plans for a new movie, Tulia, had to be scrapped because Berry, 41, is already three-months along.  The film would have reunited Halle with her Monster’s Ball co-star, Billy Bob Thornton.

Box Office Breakdown:  Almighty Only Does Alrighty

Question: When is being the #1 movie just not enough? (Hint:  You have three chances to answer this question correctly).

Answer(s):

1. When the critics don’t really have anything good to say about you
2. When you made less than 1/2 of what your predecessor did on opening weekend
3. When it cost over $175 million just to create you

Apparently having God on your side doesn’t guarantee you heavenly box office numbers.  Evan Almighty, the follow-up to 2003’s Bruce Almighty, failed to bring in a large congregation this past weekend.  Although it did better than the rest of the flock, it’s $32 million take paled in comparison to Bruce’s $68 million opening.  And then there’s that glaring $175 million bill…

Of course, we shouldn’t feel so badly about Steve Carell’s career.  I have a feeling that God is providing for him in other ways.
