Box Office Breakdown: Hotel Transylvania Pulls in the Screams

Vampires are still very much in at the box office -- no matter what age you are.
The animated family film Hotel Transylvania debuted this weekend with an impressive $43 million, making it the second biggest summer opener after The Dark Knight Rises. The latest Bruce Willis film -- written and directed by Rian Johnson -- Looper debuted at second place with $21.2 million while last week's number one film, End of Watch, fell two spots with $8 million. Clint Eastwood's Trouble with the Curve fell one spot to number four with $7.5 million, and the thriller House at the End of the Street rounds out the top five with $7.1 million.

Box Office Breakdown: End of Watch Finishes First

It was a close race to the top of the box office this weekend, but the latest David Ayer thriller End of Watch came out ahead with $13.1 million.
In second place was the Jennifer Lawrence film House at the End of the Street, which debuted with $12.2 million while third place went to Clint Eastwood's Trouble With the Curve, which debuted with $12.1 million. Finding Nemo in 3D dropped two spots from last week to number four with $9.6 million, and last week's number one film, Resident Evil: Retribution, dropped down four spots to number five with $6.7 million.

Box Office Breakdown: Resident Evil Takes Down Nemo

Fans of Resident Evil have proven that the franchise shows no signs of slowing down, considering that its fifth film installment has topped the domestic box office and garned even more success overseas.
Taking in $21.1 million, Resident Evil: Retribution beat out the 3D release of Finding Nemo, which pulled in $17.5 million. The Possession - which held the top spot for two weeks - was bumped down two spots with $5.8 million. Lawless also fell two spots to number four with $4.2 million while ParaNorman remained at number five with $3 million.
