New Line Explores Animation With ‘Planet 51’

Planet 51For the first time since the company’s inception, is gearing up to release an animated film.  The $60 million was created by and written by Joe Stillman (of fame).

In case you couldn’t tell from the title, this film’s about a planet. The inhabitants therein are plagued with fear of alien invasion, a horror that is realized when Chuck Baker (an astronaut) enters their galaxy. As he tries to evade capture and return to his home planet, he makes friends with a young alien living on Planet 51.  I found every part of the plot believable until I found out the astronaut’s supposed to be from Earth. Not buying it.

The movie and complementing video game are scheduled for a 2009 release.

‘X-Files’ Movie Slated for July 2008

X-FilesJuly 25, 2008.  That date will be personally significant to me but globally significant to fans everywhere.  Although my husband should be taking me out to dinner to celebrate our 4-year wedding anniversary, I sense that evening will be spent in a movie theater instead.  After all—how often does an film come around?

After years of rumors and denials, what had been looking like a pipe dream is now becoming a reality.  , and creator have finally gotten their acts together and jointly committed to the long-awaited X-Files .  Production is scheduled to start in December in time for the Summer 2008 release date.

Although the cult series only ended in 2002, it has been a whopping ten years since Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were last seen on the big screen.  While the new film is meant to be a ‘stand-alone’ feature, I suspect DVD rentals of the series and movie will spike sometime around June of next year.  I know I could use a bit of refreshing myself; the only thing I remember about the first pic were the bees.  Lots of them.

William Shatner Slighted By New ‘Star Trek’ Movie

William ShatnerIn what can only be described as a dismal shame, William Shatner is being left out of the loop on the upcoming motion picture. Shatner’s fellow cast mate, , was attached to the project early and is set to reprise his role as Mr. Spock. Shatner expressed surprise to the Associated Press last week that he’s not in the movie at all. For shame. You can’t have without Captain Kirk, people.

The new Trek harkens back to the well-loved original series and features as a young Kirk and as young Spock. Nevermind the fact that Kirk died in 1994’s Star Trek: Generations. Shatner is an icon of the genre – if nothing else, he could appear as a holographic image.
