Youth in Revolt Finally Starts Casting

Producers of the upcoming C.D. Payne adaptation, Youth in Revolt, decided to spill the beans on developments in casting at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
While Nick Twisp’s shoes have long-since been filled in by Michael Cera, fans of the novel had been curious as to which actors would fill the rest of the slots, as all the roles are quite difficult to tackle. That is, until now! Steve Buscemi will be playing Twisp’s playboy, two-timing father George Twisp while Ray Liotta, Jean Smart, and M. Emmet Walsh have jumped aboard as well.
The Good Girl director Miguel Arteta is attached to the film, adapted by Charlie Bartlett writer Gustin Nash.

REVIEW: I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

When Larry Valentine (Kevin James), an NYPD fireman and father of two, discovers his children will no longer be pension beneficiaries after the death of his wife, he must find a way to protect them should something happen to him. After saving the life of his longtime friend and co-worker Chuck Levine (Adam Sandler), Larry hatches a plan and convinces Chuck to become his domestic partner – much to Chuck’s chagrin. Everything seems easy at first, but soon the men are challenged by the city of New York and must go to extreme lengths to keep up the charade. Sexy lawyer Alex McDonough (Jessica Biel) steps in to help the gentlemen, but Chuck has a hard time keeping his eyes (and hands) off of the only person with the ability to help them refute the skepticism.
Although Chuck and Larry attempts to show the difficulties homosexuals still have being accepted in society, the themes are contradicted by numerous (and horribly dated) gay jokes and derogatory terms audiences will first find mildly amusing, then awkward and discomforting.

I Now Pronounce You Box Office Gold

To be honest, comedy king Kevin James and hilarious SNL success Adam Sandler could have united on any movie project and it would be a hit. But, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is a great way for the duo to make their screen debut as a pair – and just what audiences need in the middle of a summer that has so far been filled with lots of movie CGI, large-scale adventures, and not-so-hot comedies.

Monster House DVD Review

Monster House is the computer animated tale of an awkward young boy, DJ, and his friends Chowder and Jenny, as they investigate the spooky house across the street and the evil old man (Mr. Nebbercracker) residing within. When Nebbercracker is suddenly injured and hospitalized, the three decide to take a closer look, discovering, to their horror, that the house itself is actually alive, its intentions quite malicious. With Halloween soon approaching, the children must destroy the horrible home before unsuspecting trick-or-treaters are caught in its insatiable grasp. While it may be a bit scary for your preschooler, Monster House is a unique film full of slow, concentrated intensity in a genre often geared toward fidgety children and their fleeting attention spans.

Piven, Shannon to Voice New Computer Animated Feature

Jeremy Piven, Christian Slater, and Molly Shannon have signed on to voice the new CG movie, Igor. The film centers on the aptly named Igor (Slater), a hunchback and servant to a cruel mad scientist, Dr. Glickenstein (John Cleese). The annual Evil Science Fair is approaching in the land of Malaria, and Igor has dreams of winning. In a twisted stroke of luck, Dr. Glickenstein dies and Igor decides to enter his own creation into the fair. There’s just one problem: his creation, Eva (Shannon), isn’t scary. In fact, she is the sweetest creature in the world and even aspires to become an actress. With the help of a few of Dr. Glickenstein’s other creations – including a reanimated roadkill rabbit named Scamper (Steve Buscemi) – Igor must hide the doctor’s death, fool Eva into “acting” mean, and keep a nosy scientist, Dr. Schadenfruede (Piven), from messing everything up. Igor will be written by Chris McKenna (American Dad) and directed by Anthony Leondis (Lilo & Stitch 2). If Igor can match the intensity and fun of this year’s Monster House, we are certainly all for it. Of course, an all-star cast doesn’t hurt either. Look for it in theaters next year.
