The Dark Knight Rises

With all the box office record breaking The Avengers is doing, Warner Bros. wanted to leak a little reminder to movie-goers that they have a blockbuster superhero film coming out, too...

Although the trailer for The Dark Knight Rises hasn't revealed too much about Anne Hathaway's Catwoman, the teaser poster above doesn't look like she'll be serving too much as an ally to Christian Bale's Batman.

The film hits theaters on July 20.

Quote of the Day: Andrew Garfield on The Avengers

Andrew Garfield

"I saw it, and I was blown away. And I'm going to see it again this weekend. I have no problem adding to the amount of money it's making! [Laughs.] Joss Whedon is a genius, and it's an incredible cast. I was very, very jealous, and I wanted to jump on the screen and play with them. It killed me that I wasn't in it, but I understand why, and I'm not insulted. But hey, if Samuel L. Jackson wants to give me a shout, I'm there for the next one!"

-- Andrew Garfield, who will star in the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man as the eponymous comic book hero, on Marvel's The Avengers.

Idris Elba Promises ‘Huge’ Thor Sequel

Idris ElbaIdris Elba has vowed Thor 2 will be "huge."

The British actor is set to reprise his role as Asgardian gatekeeper, Heimdall in the sequel - which will again see Chris Hemsworth portray the title character - and though he says it will be an epic adventure, he also revealed the story will examine the characters in detail.

"Definitely Heimdall's more involved, but also, what's more involved is who the Asgardians are. I think we'll see a sense of that. It's a huge film, Thor 2, but I also think it's micro in a way that you start to look at people, who they are a little bit more," he said.

Though production on the sequel - which is expected to explore the other realms of the universe, outside of Asgard and Earth - has not yet begun, Idris can't wait to get to work on the movie: "I'm actually excited about it. I literally just did a costume fitting the other day."

Christopher Nolan Feels Responsibility to Batman Fans

Christopher NolanChristopher Nolan feels a "tremendous challenge and responsibility" to finish his Batman trilogy in a satisfactory way.

The director is preparing for the release of The Dark Knight Rises, the third and final installment in his series of films, and he admitted the pressure the getting to him.

"We feel a tremendous challenge and responsibility to finish our story. We have to give the audiences something they haven't seen before, but also fulfill their expectations of what they enjoyed in the first two films. That's the tricky balance," he said.

The movie was filmed across the globe with locations in the US, UK and India and Christopher revealed this was a conscious decision because he wanted a "broader canvas."

"With a sequel there is always the challenge of trying to meet or indeed exceed expectations. And some of those are based on the size, scale and world of the film. We traveled to many different places because we wanted to give it a broader canvas," he added.

Avengers Sequel Confirmed

The AvengersA sequel to The Avengers has been confirmed.

The Marvel superhero movie - which features well known comic characters including Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and The Incredible Hulk - has been a huge box-office success and Disney are already planning a second insllalment.

"[The success of the film] is a great illustration of why we like Marvel so much," Disney CEO Bob Iger said, adding that demand for merchandise associated with the film has been strong. However, it will be some time before the Avengers sequel comes out with Iron Man 3, Thor 2 and possibly Captain America 2 all set to shoot first.

Stan Lee, the former president and chairman of Marvel Comics, who created many of the characters, recently revealed his hopes for the addition of some new characters in the sequel: "Oh, I'd be happy if they add Black Panther and maybe Dr Strange. Those two and probably Ant-Man, which I think they are working on. Maybe I'll play a little role in that."

Tim Burton: My Batman Movies Were Lighthearted

On the set Batman Returns

Tim Burton believes his Batman movies are like a "lighthearted romp" compared to Christopher Nolan's rebooted versions. The Dark Shadows filmmaker was in charge of 1989's Batman and 1992's Batman Returns, which he believes were a lot lighter than Christopher's latest installments of the superhero movie, The Dark Knight and the forthcoming follow up The Dark Knight Rises.

"I always get told that my material is dark, but nowadays my version of Batman looks like a lighthearted romp in comparison to Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight."

Iron Man 3 Will Not Star the Avengers

Iron ManIron Man 3 will see the superhero "cut off" from The Avengers world. The comic book movie sees Robert Downey Jr. reprise his role as industrialist Tony Stark and his metal-clad alter-ego following the The Avengers film and the plot will see the hero having to survive on his own.

"Iron Man 3 has been structured specifically to be the antidote to The Avengers ... Circumstances in the story separate Tony from having access to anything. We wanted to take Tony back to, metaphorically speaking, the cave from Iron Man, the first half of Iron Man, when he's cut off from the world and needs just focus on his intellects to get himself out of his situation," Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige said, speaking in Empire magazine's latest podcast.

Kevin also revealed the other characters from The Avengers squad - which include Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) - will not feature in the sequel: "In the film he (Iron Man) is not calling Thor, he's not calling Captain America, he can't press a special button to have the helicarrier come rescue him, so I think that'll be a nice complement to the team up of The Avengers."

Amazing Spider-Man Sequel Confirmed

Emma Stone and Andrew GarfieldA sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man is being written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.

Despite the film - starring Andrew Garfield as the web-slinging hero and Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy - not being released until July 3, studio Sony are keen to create a follow-up, which is planned to hit cinemas on May 2, 2014.

"Alex and Bob have a unique ability to write a great character and spectacular action that makes them pitch perfect for Spider-Man. They have an innate understanding of what makes Peter Parker not just a superhero but a hero for us all," said Matt Tolmach and Avi Arad - who are producing the project - in a statement.

Roberto and Alex are best known for their work on the reboot of the Star Trek franchise, directed by J.J Abram and starring Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock.

The sequel is expected to go into production in the first quarter of 2013.

Chris Hemsworth Was Apprehensive About Avengers Role

Chris Hemsworth as ThorChris Hemsworth was initially apprehensive about starring in The Avengers.

The actor admits he wasn't sure about taking on the role of Thor in the superhero ensemble movie because there were so many big names in it. "I kept getting asked beforehand who was going to be the biggest diva and who was going to manage all the egos," he said, speaking about the movie.

However, Chris had nothing to worry about and says everyone got on great as they were all there to make the best movie possible:

"I hadn't worked with any of the guys before and it was great. I don't know if they're normally like that but everyone was well behaved. There were no big egos. I think the days of that sort of attitude are gone because films nowadays rely a lot more on concept than on individual stars and it keeps everyone in check. The movie is about teamwork and because each of us had done our individual films, we had a strong idea of who the characters were, so all we had to do was put the pieces together rather than work out what our solo journey was. It was much easier than sharing the load."
