Whether she’s just being cautious of repeating Britney Spears’ Crossroads mistake or truly intrigued by the generic girl-with-big-dreams-travels-to-L.A. story, Christina Aguilera isn’t pushing boundaries in her Burlesque character’s shoes. The 29 year-old singer pulls from her “Lady Marmalade” days, staying true to her hypersexed image to portray Ali Rose.

“It wasn’t just about a girl who comes to LA and makes it big. It was a girl who had suffered and felt pain, been in seven foster homes. She doesn’t let her past make her a victim. And that to me was so appealing,” Aguilera said.

The film hits theaters this November.
