The LEGO Movie has become unstoppable!
Despite the releases of newcomers 3 Days to Kill and Pompeii, the animated family film based on a children's toy remained at the top of the box office this weekend with $31.1 million. 3 Days to Kill and Pompeii debuted with respectable earnings of $12.2 million and $10.3 million, respectively. The RoboCop remake fell one spot from its debut at number three last week with $9.8 million while The Monuments of Men also fell one spot as well to number five with $7.9 million.

Box Office Breakdown: V-Day Films No Match for ‘LEGO Movie’

The LEGO Movie got more love from movie-goers than any of the new romance films this Valentine's Day weekend.
Pulling in $48.8 million at the box office, the animated film based on the popular toys beat out four newcomers this weekend, including the remake of About Last Night, which placed second with $27 million. The highly-anticipated RoboCop movie debuted at number three with $21.5 million while The Monuments of Men fell two spots from last week to number four with $15 million. The other romantic remake, Endless Love, debuted in fifth place with $13.3 million.

Legos aren't just extremely marketable toys for children - they're a marketable movie franchise for adults, too.
The LEGO Movie topped the box office this weekend, earning $69 million while another newcomer, The Monuments of Men, debuted with $22 million, landing it a second place title. Despite holding the number one spot for three consecutive weeks, Ride Along took a dive down to number three with $9.5 million. Frozen fell two spots to number four with $6.8 million while Lone Survivor stayed put at number five with $5.5 million.

With few newcomers this past weekend, it was easy for the Ice Cube and Kevin Hart buddy cop comedy, Ride Along, to maintain its top box office position. The runner-ups in second and third place - Lone Survivor and The Nut Job - also remained in their box office positions.
Ride Along took in $21.2 million while Lone Survivor and The Nut Job took in $12.9 million and $12.1 million, respectively. Frozen came up one spot to number four from last week with $9.1 million while Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit pulled in $9 million, dropping down one spot to number five.

Box Office Breakdown: ‘Ride Along’ Nabs Top Spot, New Record

Although Ride Along seemed like it was going to face stiff competition this weekend, the Kevin Hart and Ice Cube buddy cop comedy not only came out on top but also set a new record for the biggest January opening (a title held previously by Cloverfield, which had made $40.1 million in 2008.
Ride Along's record-breaking opening for the weekend was $41.6 million, dropping last week's top box office earner, Lone Survivor, down to number two with $22 million. The animated film Nut Job debuted third with $19.4 while the other newcomer, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, came in fourth place with $15.5 million. Last week's number two earner, Frozen, fell three spots to number five with $11.8 million.
