Joshua Jackson Takes On UFO

Joshua Jackson as Peter Bishop on FringeJoshua Jackson has signed up to take the lead in UFO.

The Fringe actor will take the lead in the big screen adaptation of the cult 70s TV show by Gerry Anderson in a story which follows test pilot Paul Foster join a secret alien-fighting organization hidden between a film studio.

The movie will be directed by special effects expert Matthew Gratzner, who has previously worked on The Aviator, The Good Shepherd, Pitch Black and Alien Resurrection, and is based on the hit TV series of the same name.

The show followed the pilot’s discovery of the secret group - named SHADO - and his discovery of alien life forms after his plane was severely damaged when the two fought in the sky. Matthew plans to start filming early next year with a script penned by Ryan Gaudet and Joseph Kanarek.

MTV Seeks Rocky Horror Remake

MTV plans to remake cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Yes, you unfortunately read that title correctly: MTV is seriously planning to remake the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

While I cannot deny how popular musicals have become (i.e. Mamma Mia!, High School Musical, Hairspray), are there not already tons of other musicals to tamper with other than this one? Can producers possibly more cold-hearted than I thought?

On the upside (yes, there’s actually an upside) to this, the executive producer of the original, Lou Adler, is attached to the project, along with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios. They also plan on using the original screenplay (thankfully!); however, they may incorporate songs not included in the original (what?).

Movie Remakes: Killer Tomatoes, Rosemary’s Baby

Attack of the Killer TomatoesAlthough I have a hard time believing there are people out there born after the ‘70s, I understand there are many who’ve never even heard of Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.  Fortunately for them, there will soon be a remake.

Kent Nichols and Douglas Sarine - the creators behind the “Ask A Ninja” web shorts -  have taken on the challenge of retooling the cult classic.  Although the update’s budget will undoubtedly be larger than the original’s (the first film reportedly cost less than $100,000), it’s unclear how far the writers will deviate from the 1978 storyline.

The movie about murderous fruit spawned three sequels including Return of the Killer Tomatoes and Killer Tomatoes Strike Back.  (‘s career managed to survive an appearance in the former.)  No target date for the redo has been announced.
