Why Was Farrah Fawcett Not Mentioned at Oscars?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Awards, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Celebrity Controversy, Obituaries,
I was too distracted by Demi Moore’s thin frame last night to initially notice this omission. But let me assure you—many people on Twitter didn’t, and neither did Ryan O’Neal.
Although Patrick Swayze, David Carradine, Natasha Richardson and Michael Jackson were some of the names included in the Academy Award’s “In Memoriam” segment, one name was left off that annual list: Farrah Fawcett.
Yes, Farrah was primarily known for her television work—but she did act in a number of big screen projects including Logan’s Run, Extremities and The Apostle. (And really - does anyone think of Michael Jackson as a movie star?) But yet, despite all the tabloids her face helped sell last year (and the documentaries that ran about her health battle), the 62-year-old didn’t make the final cut. (No pun intended.)

Mixed Reviews for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Adventure, Sequels, Upcoming Releases,
The U.S. premiere of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is still 3 days away, but an audience at Cannes got its first glimpse yesterday. Here’s a sampling of the reviews being posted by critics today:
- Associated Press: “Except for the opening — which literally starts the film off with a bang — and a couple of dazzling chase sequences, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is about as unfocused and meandering as the title itself.”
- Entertainment Weekly: “There’s joy and a middle-aged playfulness to the best of Steven Spielberg’s unlikely sequel. And I mean that as a full compliment: All the movieman’s themes are here, his interests, obsessions, trademark strengths as a cinematic storyteller, and Spielbergian ‘tells,’ too, with hubcap and sideview mirror reflections dating back over 35 years to Duel.”

Ebert & Roeper Continues without Roger
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Celeb News,
Although he will continue to watch movies, don’t be expecting Roger Ebert to be speaking about them anytime soon.
The former co-host of Ebert & Roeper (or Siskel & Ebert) has not been seen in his usual theater chair since he required surgery on his salivary glands back in 2006. That was one of several operations the 65-year-old has had in the past few years for removal of growths.
In a recent post for the Chicago Sun-Times, the famous film critic said that he won’t be able to engage in a friendly argument with Richard Roeper anytime soon:
“I underwent a third surgery in January, this one in Houston, and once again there were complications. I am sorry to say that my ability to speak was not restored. That would require another surgery.”

Proposed New Year’s Resolutions for Movie Studio Executives
Posted by Johnny Mercedes Categories: Distribution, Filmmaking, Lists, Technology, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
A quintessential holiday morsel:
‘Tis the season to be jolly
Fa la la la la … la la la la
And there must be no shortage of jolliness for big-name film studios as we enter the last days of the year—2007 has been one of the most lucrative in film history. But after the holiday parties end, and the final box-office spreadsheets have been tucked under the pillow (or thrown on the fire), the time comes for rebirth and renewal. After all, the target demographic will be looking for something new, and the critics certainly weren’t impressed with much of this year’s fare. Perhaps everyone can be happy in 2008, as the medium returns to its glory days of content-rich, engaging filmmaking.
Alright, you people aren’t buyin’ it.
