Box Office Breakdown: Argo Climbs to the Top of a Quiet Weekend

After already having been in theaters for three weeks, Ben Affleck's Argo finally made it to number one during a weak box office weekend with $12.3 million.

Hotel Transylvania was also boosted this weekend after having fallen from its number one debut. The animated family film jumped from number four to second place with $9.5 million. The much buzzed about Cloud Atlas debuted at number three with $9.4 million while Paranormal Activity 4 fell three spots to number four with $8.6 million. Finally, Taken 2 dropped two spots to number five with $8 million.

Box Office Breakdown: Paranormal Activity 4 Claims the Top Spot

Horror films, to no one's suprise, continue to take in the most at the box office as we approach Halloween - the latest Paranormal Activity film is no exception.

Paranormal Activity 4 debuted at the top with a modest $30.2 million, which is still quite a profit for its $5 million budget, but nowhere near as impressive as its predecessors. Ben Affleck's sophomore film Argo held steady at number two this weekend with $16.6 million while Hotel Transylvania was bumped up a spot to number three with $13.5 million. Taken 2 took the biggest blow, dropping three spots to number four with $13.4 million. Alex Cross debuted at number five with $11.7 million.

Cinema Scene: Oscar the Cat’s Film, Wesley Snipes’ Free Time

Oscar the cat-Oscar, a real-life nursing home cat, is getting a movie based on him. Family members have been notified when the Rhode Island feline with the uncanny ability to predict death has been seen curling up on a patient’s bed.

-Danny DeVito will sub for longtime friend Michael Douglas at the Zurich Film Festival. Douglas, who is receiving treatment for a throat tumor, was scheduled to accept a Golden Icon Award on October 3.

-Wesley Snipes’ date with slammer has been delayed. Although he was supposed to start his three-year sentence by September 2, additional motions being filed by his defense team have given the actor more free time.

-Idris Elba will be taking over an old Morgan Freeman role. The Wire star will be playing Dr. Alex Cross - the character in Kiss the Girls - in an adaptation of James Patterson’s Cross.
