‘Evil Dead’ Remake Promises to Be the Scariest Film You’ll See

'The Evil Dead' remake

The folks behind the Evil Dead remake are pretty confident that the new film will scare your socks skin off - according to the film's new poster, anyway.

With folks from the original on board (Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell are producing) and Jennifer's Body writer Diablo Cody aiding with the script, perhaps the new version won't be all that bad. Then again, remaking such a cult-classic like Evil Dead is risky business! The film hits theaters April 12, 2013.

Sam Raimi to Remake The Evil Dead

The Evil Dead posterReturning to his horror roots (let's forget that Drag Me to Hell ever happened, yes?), Sam Raimi is set to remake The Evil Dead.

The Spider-Man director - who rose to fame with the horror film in 1981 - is heading back to work on a remake of the project, which told the tale of a group of friends who head to a forest cabin and unleash a group of evil demons.

Bruce Campbell, who played lead character Ash Williams in the original movie and its follow ups Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, confirmed the news via a Twitter question and answer session: "Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.(sic)"

According to Dread Central, Sam is now heading to Detroit to begin work on the project, which will have a small budget and a similar feel to the original movie. Evil Dead has made approximately $29 million since its release, with funds of just $400,000.

Stars Align For Spider-Man 4

Spider-Man 3 was released in 2007After waiting for the will-they-won’t-they with Sam Raimi, Kirsten Dunst, and Tobey Maguire, Columbia Pictures has finally stamped a release date of May 5, 2011 for Spider-Man 4.

Considering that Thor is due out June 17, and The First Avenger: Captain America hits theaters July 22 that same summer, we’ll be in for quite a Marvel-ous theater-going experience three months in a row!

For all of the Sam Raimi fans, it has been revealed that Bruce Campbell has signed on for a major part this time around (in the first three Spidey films, the Evil Dead actor appeared in mere cameos)—quite possibly a villainous role, too.

Filming is expected to begin early next year, but if you can’t wait that long, there are always those Spider-Man comics to pass the time—you know, those things that these blockbusters originated from…

Bruce Campbell Gives Evil Dead Fans Hope

Evil Dead

At last months Comic-Con, Sam Raimi told MTV that the chances of seeing another Evil Dead installment was very good.

“If the financing ever fell in place right. But first, I’d have to work on the script with my brother [Ivan Raimi]. And that’s something I’m hoping to find the time to do.”

But even if the busy director (Spider-Man) found time to craft another one for the “few weirdoes” out there, would even be interested? I mean, it’s already been 15 years since Ash faced off against the dead in Army of Darkness.

This Week on HD DVD and Blu-ray: October 2, 2007

Evil Dead 2 posterThis Tuesday brings the release of some great titles, new and old.  As expected, the studios are rolling out some Halloween-inspired classics, filled with zombies, vampires and serial killers; though sadly, only Blu-ray supporters seem to be taking advantage of the upcoming holiday.

HD DVD studios chose instead to use this week to re-release a bunch of titles that were previously only available in those obnoxious HD DVD/DVD Combo discs.  You know, the $40 releases that were appealing to neither the HD owners nor the standard-definition owners?  Those of you who rightly refused to make such a silly purchase can now have some great HD titles for a lower price, thanks to Warner Home Video coming to its senses.  Any of the following films with an asterisk (*) in the title are the re-released versions.

Check out this Tuesday’s HD DVD and Blu-ray releases after the jump.
