Australian actor Chris Hemsworth is to star in Shadow Runner, an action thriller acquired by Columbia Pictures attached with producers Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson.
Details on the plot are being kept under wraps, but it is believed Hemsworth's character will lead an elite team of operatives who take on impossible tasks.
"We think the story is a terrific action thriller for Chris Hemsworth and we know this project is in great hands with Tripp, Beau and Will as they develop the film," said Columbia Pictures production president Hannah Minghella.
Drive writer Hossein Amini - who will executive produce - came up with the initial idea for the movie, with the inspiration being an incident when an Israeli assassination team targeted someone they believed murdered soldiers and stockpiled missiles, eventually tracking him to Dubai, where a 17-man team killed him in the corridor of a luxury hotel. However, Deadline.com reports the film will not directly replicate those events.
Chris can next be seen opposite Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman.

First Look: Chris Hemsworth as the Muscular Thor
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Adaptation, Adventure, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
It takes a strong man to assume the title of Thor…and an even stronger man to wield that hammer. That is where Chris Hemsworth comes in.
In this picture, the actor who recently played George Kirk in Star Trek - and will play the Jed Eckert character in the Red Dawn remake - shows off the forearms will get him through Thor (and The Avengers).
Despite a star-studded cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgaard and Rene Russo - it appears Hemsworth will be more than able to hold his own.
Look for Thor to hit theaters on May 6, 2011.

An American Werewolf in London: While fans are reminiscing over Michael Jackson’s Thriller video, it seems just appropriate that a remake of John Landis’ horror film is in the works. (Werewolf was the inspiration for the music video.) In the 1981 original, two college students (David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) are attacked by the creature while backpacking. The survivor eventually goes on to attack other victims. Dimension Films has tapped Sean and Bryan Furst (Daybreakers) to produce.
